Hi all, I just bought a lefty 2350bk a few days ago.See the pic and figure out which one it is for yourself. Lawsuit headstock and C76 serialnumber. I bought it from the first owner and in its case there was a ticket with it from the shop he bought it in. That is dated oktober 1974! Ofcourse I can not be sure the neckplate including serialnumber never was changed or the ticket is for this same guitar it is with now but the seller claims both to be the case and I have no reason whatsoever to question his words. I am inclined to believe him.
My question to all is: Have you ever seen or heard about a guitar sold (in the Netherlands of all places ) about one and a half year before it is even supposed to be made?
I am very curious......

Do you get the X Files or Twilight Zone in the Netherlands? :-)

Seriously, you have to doubt the seller's memory because it's physically impossible. Either he bought the guitar in '74 and changed the plate for some reason, or the invoice is not for that particular guitar, or the invoice was misdated.

The guitar looks more like those shown in the '74 and '75 catalogs. The 2350s in the '76 catalog don't have the lawsuit headstock.

BTW, are there serial numbers on the two righty guitars? If these are all from the same year (they all look identical) and they have no serial numbers then they would all be from before mid '75.

Okay John, here we go:

Yes we do have some mindtwisting telly over here....

I know it should be impossible, that is why I posted this on ICW. I consider this site to be the home of some CSI viewers.... This IS the place to be!

I have two other lawsuit headstocks with 76 serialnumbers so I know there were some made....

The righties have no serialnumbers. The one on the right (with the gold completely gone) is bought brand new by my dad in 1973. The other righthanded is exactly the same as that one exept for the pups, it has super70's and the confirmed 1973 bought model still has the former used Maxon single coils in a humbucker casing. Don't know about the year of birth of that one. I guess a '74, give or take a year because of the components used.
The lefty differs quite a bit from the other two.
It has the later trussrod cover with the word custom in small letters on it in comparison to the older big fond style. The older LP's have the scratchplate cut off in a 45 degrees angle, even on the "bass side" of the guitar. The righties show this. The lefty has the newer style straight cut, if you understand my description....
Last difference is that the righties have the older style control cavity cover with the six screw mounting and the lefty has the newer style 4 screw mounting. Parallel to this change in design came the change of the pots positions. The older guitars have the pots closer together than the later guitars. This difference shows in the pic above. So my conclusion is that the lefty is definetly a younger model as are the other two and I believe the neckplate to be original to this guitar. It just all matches.

But what are the chances that a lefty bass player who happens to have two guitars, this LP and a 76 Fender tele, manages to get an receipt for a black lefty LP from a store nearby which he never got? I know this guy has lived through the psychedelic sixties in a progressive rock band, so his memory could be a little affected but I do not believe he simply forgot about another guitar he used to own.

Lespaul,

I have a '76 artist without a serial number, simply because Ibanez outsourced some models to other factories, but a pre-serial LP with a seriel no........

Any chance of pic of the plate.

Hi Snowjays,
You want a pic of the neckplate? What are you hoping to see? It is the same as ar all the others. I'll post it tomorrow. Have to shoot it first.
