England getting carrots from the Kiwis,and... South Africa handing the Aussies carrots tommorrow! LOL yes feel free to jump in Six, Cp. Ibanez and all the other people down under. AFL Umpires are powerless to send off players who blatanly foul an opponent or strike them. It's a disgrace and wouldn't be tolerated in any other sport. And the most bizarre AFL rule of all awards a free kick to a player because he caught the ball kicked by one of his own team mates. For me, the debacle that was the last International Rules competition was an object lesson in how not to conduct one's self in an international arena. Shame on the Australians. Shame on Kevin Sheedy for not disciplining his players. That may well be the last time you'll see that particular contest. Ben Cousins is possibly a drug-taking drunk who's gone off the rails. He probably isn't the only high-profile sportsman guilty of that. Can't say that I have completly got my head around the rules of AFL (I use the term rules lightly) since I've been a Victorian resident. Went to a St. Kilda V West Coast Eagles game last year and things were a bit clearer seeing the game played in the flesh rather than on the box. Still prefer Rugby League to be honest. I'm surprised at how little wehave heard about the World Cup, other than the Pakistan debarcle. No, not really. I'm an ex-Mancunian so grew up with the round-ball variety of football. I used to play Lacrosse and rugby at high school, but I was definitely a better soccer player. I have nothing against the occasional mentions of AFL on sports bulletins, but during the footy season, that's all you get. There is no other game in town but footy. Try timing the so-called sports segments on commercial TV (and even on dear old Aunty) and it's 95% footy. If you're really lucky, the women's hockey team may crack a mention or perhaps World Swimming Championships - so long as Australia is winning gold medals. The only sport I participate in these days is swimming, but not competitively. Snowjays, it's the way most sports seem to be heading these days, if you don't have pay TV you miss out, there's little free-to-air coverage. My wife and I used to enjoy watching the netball on TV, but that's gone to pay TV now. I bet it won't be too long before my precious V8-Supercars are on FoxSport. Getting back on topic, talk is now that Bob Woolmer was murdered, or the latest theory that I heard this morning on ABC's AM programme is that he may have taken his own life. Absolutely bizarre.   Guidothepimp Username: Guidothepimp Registered: 9-2005 Posted on Thursday, March 22, 2007 - 1:16 am:    There is something awry with all of this, Because he was a former South Africa coach there is constant coverage here about what happened, 1st apparently they suspected it was diabetes complications, then came the suicide rumour, then there was something about him being so stressed it resulted in a stroke or something, and now they are going on about murder by bookies. All very bizarre, out of respect for the mans family they should just let this rest and deal with it quietly. ohh and i got my date wrong, the big game against the Aussies is 24th!! fancy Ireland getting through to the final 8's?? talk of bizarre! luck of the IRish no doubt, although there are some Aussies and South africans in their team LOL. Someone spoke about football? That's another rumour that was doing the rounds. The Australian team has lost some top flight players recently due to retirements. I feel our domination of cricket is likely to end soon. The England team were soundly trounced during the last Ashes series, but that was largely due to Australia playing some of their best cricket ever, whereas England played some of their worst. Pretty much a reversal of fortunes when England won the Ashes last time. I was mildly amused to hear the Captain of Ireland's cricket team speaking with a South African accent. I think there's at least one former Australian playing for them, too. Will the Aussies win the Cricket World Cup in 2007? I think perhaps New Zealand will take it home this time.
