If this is a real 1961 Les Paul Custom, you are really underestimating this plank.

I know, it looks like sh.., but you'll be surprised at the 22nd.

The problem with this one is: what do you do with it? You may not refinish it..., but when I see this my hands are itching!

I guess Dave_G has some ideas about how this baby can be rescued in the best possible manner.

This won't be a pleasure for the left hand if you leave it this way.

What to do? Use some filler and polish it?
Or sand it further down to the wood?
Or play with a bleeding left thumb...

Other than the obvious neck reset and repair to the xtra holes in the neck, this guitar has fantastic potential. I think some of the relic on this guitar is intentional-look at the pickguard...how does a plastic pickguard get to look like that, and why not just wipe the crud off? I think the seller is down playing this plank and will get top $ for it in the end. The '61 Custom is THE HOLY GRAIL of SG's. You will not find a better sounding pure rock machine anywhere ! Ricky Medlocke (formally of Blackfoot, now Skynyrd)has one that he has played the out of... Look to see a TON of action on this one late in the game as bidders think that this is a sleeper auction. My guess is that it goes into the 4K arena before this is over......

I re read the auction, too bad the PUPS and harness is replaced....on second thought this relic should reach $1,800 or so.

I suspect the paint would probably have fallen off if he'd cleaned it up.
