I bought a brand new one a few months back to install on my Artcore Custom. It came in a zip lock bag with the part number hand written on it. Anyway I pulled it out of the case to show a friend my plans to replace the plastic with brass/bone and found that it had fallen apart. Has anyone had this happen on or off the guitar? It seems as if they used a the smallest amount of glue to join them together.

Same thing happened to me with one of those nuts that I bought off e-bay that was billed as "NOS nut". I epoxied it back together. I wonder if the dude's making those things himself? Wouldn't be hard to do.

Freak,

I ordered one from Hoshino and it was in the same condition. In fact, it shows no signs of ever being glued together.

That's the same bag mine came in, so mine must've come from Hoshino as well. I guess after 30 years that's what happens to 'em if they're not in a guitar. Epoxy will work better than super glue I'd imagine. I used a wooden cam clamp to hold it together while it cured.

That goes to show where the ebay guy is getting his parts from then marking them up. I had a feeling he has an inside contact at HUSA. I just wonder if its legit! I remeber JD saying a while back that there are still a lot of old parts still available in the warehouse. gibralter 1 suregrip 1's ect.

By the way I bought mine brand new for the GB12. So it should'nt be 30 years old.I think it was on back order also. It looks to me like they use 2 tiny drops of super glue on each end and slap them together.

You know, come to think of it. the brass on my nut was a little thicker than the brass on my vintage Ibanezes. I figured this was due to the fitting process, they thinned it out from the front to fit it into the nut slot. But it was pretty shiny too, didn't look old. I figured he just polished it before shipping it out. I can make 30 year old brass shine like new, but now I wonder.....

John no new toy! I wish. That was the model I got the part number from to place the order. Sorry about the misconception.
