What would be the generalized difference between an American made product(guitar) and Asian made? Do they give the Asian factories inferior stuff to work with? I wonder how much it would cost to swap out the Asian bits and replace with USA bits. I wonder if going that route can get you an axe with all the bells and whistles of a USA axe but for less than you would have paid if you bought the USA axe straight up in the first place.

Bob I wonder that also. But I think the point ofr this is that all of these big companies that Ibanez copied are doing what Hoshino has been doing from the start only they are now naming the factories after the brand name. Maybe to try and make there junk seem better then the rest.

I saw the article and read through it, very interesting. Its all about the bottom line,it cost less to make Epiphone/Gibson guitars in Asia than in the US.I think Asians should call for equal rights and equal pay(like in the US! Asians are ppl too!!)That would put a finger in someones chille

I will have to say that I've owned a few Epiphone acoustic that were Japanese made back in the 70's so I guess its nothing new but it seems like they are reassuring folks not to let the cuntry of origin sway there choice of product.

Hey, just remember, it wasn't long ago that Japan was where cheap goods were made (like all the Ibanez collectibles we love on this site!! :-) ).

China will eventually raise their standard of living, and then manufacturing will move to central Africa or something. It's the natural cycle of economics. But, China is a very interesting case, because it's not a democratic country and thus big business remains concerned. OTOH, it's also got that huge population, just crying out for different crafts, like luthiery (is that a word?). The sleeping giant awakes...

Sometimes I wonder which is better, a benevolent dictatorship or a psudo-democracy where the "elected" official controls all branches of government?
