Author Message   Chucke99 Username: Chucke99 Registered: 2-2007 Posted on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 4:54 pm:    Don't know how many people here read "The Onion" online humor magazine, but here's an article from their latest edition: Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Retires 'D' Chord CLEVELAND—The D chord, famed for its part in innumerable classic rock songs, including "Back in Black," "Bad Moon Rising," and "Don't Be Cruel," was retired Tuesday during a ceremony at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. "The D chord has firmly cemented its place in rock history," said Hall of Fame founder and Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner at the induction, during which Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, Pete Townshend, R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, and several other rock luminaries simultaneously performed the chord one last time. "We are proud to honor the legacy of this immortal and eminently prestigious musical tone by never allowing it to be played again in any genre of rock music." Donna Summer (Queen of disco) was just inducted into the hall of fame. Someone should be fired immediately and while they're at it, clean out the rest that no have buisiness being a member in the hall of fame. What an assinine decision. But then again, I never lend much cred to awards of any kind handed out by the musical establishment. Here's what my friend Pete calls, "The Evans Musical Quality Theorum". Please note that it applies to Rock bands and performers only, not to Jazz or other artforms. But you should also know that this theorum is a LAW of nature. It was designed to rehash and resell music that was previously shoved down our throats by top 40 radio stations of the past and present. Bobzilla you are right about disco and other folks that don't belong there. Brian Setzer has won a couple of Grammies for his instrumentals. He most certainly does not suck....well on second thoughts, maybe he does!! He's just released an album of classical music done big band style. I can't even bring myself to even think about listening to it.. What I mean is (and I think Chucke) is that if you're a Grammy winner, then you must be a great musician/band or whatever. But because of that, you must be totally boring or so good that you dissapeared up your own backside years ago. Toto are a good example. Won a shopping trolley's full of Grammy's in 1984 for Toto IV and became almost invisible in any charts overnight. Like they went to heaven or something or became so elite that you shouldn't be listening to thier music anymore or going to see them or even discussing them. So R&R Hall of Fame is like a Jerry Springer show loaded Trailer Park and the Grammy's is The Park Lane Hilton in London. My old band used to day dream about winning a Grammy. Then we could retire and live off our royalties. I'd like to add that I have all the TOTO albums and have seen them several times with umpteen different singers. See, I'm a proper Muso. six   Chucke99 Username: Chucke99 Registered: 2-2007 Posted on Sunday, October 14, 2007 - 7:30 pm:    Grammys are awarded by the music establishment, and, in the case of Rock bands at least, your band is only good while you are fighting the establishment. As soon as the establishment thinks it is "hip" to like your band, they award you a grammy, but note that they award it to make themselves look hip, not to award your talent. The other bands that win Grammys are blessed by the record industry machine and are sort of pre-ordained. When the great rock bands are young and lean, and doing their best work, they don't win Grammys. They win them long afterwards, when the Grammy voters decide to look hip. Think Carlos Santana. Think the Rolling Stones. Think Jethro Tull. I remember Air Supply winning the Grammy for Best New Artist over Boston. It happens all the time. Once again, I'm not saying the law applies to genres other than Rock, but it definitely applies to Rock, as surely as dropping your guitar on your toe will cause you pain.   Guitarwhisperer Username: Guitarwhisperer Registered: 6-2007 Posted on Sunday, October 14, 2007 - 11:23 pm:    I was just kidding. As soon as someone wins a grammy you can't criticise them anymore. I've actually had this conversation before:"I can't stand Alanis Morisette. She's a whiny •••#@ and she can't sing worth a crap!" "Well, I didn't like her either untill she won that Grammy! Now I think she's awesome! I bought her album because of that!" The mere presence of one gangsta-smack talking punk raises my blood pressure to dangerous levels. I don't need the aggravation, so I tend to ignore the entire charade.
