Someone over in the Guild forum pointed me at this one. Whew. What do you think?

I think they'll want to start the bidding at $1 million or have a reserve at that price. The guitar has a lot of history, but it's also been changed a great deal over the years. If it were a "run of the mill" '59 Burst with that many changes, it wouldn't get the $500K-$750K they talk about, IMO. So who knows.

Call me cynical but there's no way that's for real.

It's in far too good condition.

It's (supposedly) a 48 year old guitar that has been passed around by a bunch hard drinking, hard smoking, hard drugging professional rock guitarists for decades and it doesn't even have so much as a cigarette burn on the headstock?

If that's for real then more than just the headstock has been refinished.

Besides, as the provenance stated: this is the kind of guitar that is sold at Christie's.

Why is it on GBase?

Sotheby's? Sure. GBase??!! Get real.

I don't believe it.

I don't necessarily believe it either, Peter. I was thinking the same thing when I saw it. If it is, though, and the guitar really is in such good condition... wow.

Absolutely!

It'd be a great one to have if it was real.

If ou look at their website you will find that the only working link on top is "e-mail".
These guys don't have an address, policies, and there are no guitars under $2499.- (a 1960 Hagstrom) and several with the price of a house or a limo.

I don't know, but this doesn't seem right!
I wouldn't be surprise if this is just another trickster.

I know the guy who runs We sell guitars. He's honest and I have bought several guitars from him when I lived in the UK. I have "pesonally" played the Ya-Ya guitar that is the other famous Stones Burst Les Paul. I know Cosmo Verrico be it only through mutual friends in the vintage guitar field and in fact, I bought a stock of 50's/60's vintage gibson parts from Cosmo in 2000 (very juicy bits they are too). We talked about the Keith Burst for about an hour. I also know the luthier who has worked on the "Keith Burst" on a number of occassions. In fact, he's done work for me too.

I can assure you that it's real.

OK Six, I'm glad to hear that from you.

But I find the design of his website kind of weird, with all these useless button.

But I can imagine that he's afraid of visitor at night. An e-mail address is enough to lay the first contact. And then make an appointment at a notary's office, I guess.

Hey, six, thanks for chiming in! I hope it goes well for the sellers. This is a unique piece, and probably should go to a Sotheby's auction or something.

Funny thing is... there is truly a chance that an ar5000 sounds as good as or better than this axe. Seriously. So... what is one really paying for here? The quality of the sound? The name on the headstock? The history? I can assure of this... if it does sell for $1,000,000 the sound that comes out of it is not $996,000 better than an ar5000.

Chaz....No worries.

Bob,

You're dead right. If it sells (as it didn't get anywhere near its reserve last time around so Richard tells me) the owner will be stepping in to a little bit of rock history and will be buying in to a sound investment.

For me, Burst Les Pauls are the most amazing guitars ever made. In the past, I've had my chance to own several but could never afford it. The last one I actually thought about buying was a 58. All original but a totally plain top...no flame at all. That was around 1990 and it was going for £10,000 ono.

I think you really have to hold and play one for a while to really appreciate what you have in your hands.

Six,

I think the same can be said for 50's and 60's Strats and Teles. I use to think it was all hype until I actually got to try 3...a '51 esquire, and a '61 and '65 Strat. I've never heard any Strat or Tele that sounded as good as those. There is something magical about the pickups, woods, and finish they used in those days. I fully understand why they command the prices they get for 'em.

Absolutely!.

It's a pity Gisbon stopped making production single cut Les Paul's in 1960 only picking up aging in 68. I reckon they would have been a lot cheaper on the vintage market if they had continued the line throughout the 60's. More like a 335 or SG. Oh well, ***t happens.
