Lets pretend that you had to choose one specific year of production, and you were only allowed to have Ibanez guitars from that year for the rest of your life. What year would it be?

For me, it is a toss up between '92 and '93. But I think I would go with '93, and start things out with an SV470, an AM200, and a GB10. I know, not the most vintage appleal, and not the most sought after models, but absolute staples with regard to usability.

1977, especially the early transition models from '76..the build on the Artist, Professional, 2617, Iceman hasn't been matched since and probably never will (at least no at a price anyone can afford)

1986. Last year for all Japanese construction. First year for the Edge bridge.

FYI, Acetan, no Roadstars in 1982. They came out in 1983. You'll have to settle for a Blazer... LOL !!

I'm with Dave G...the '76 to '77 transition models. I have shown some of these to some friends who are "non Ibanez" guitar collectors. They are always floored by the superb build quality. As Dave G said...you'll never find this much attention to detail at this pricepoint again.

Steve, I have an RS505 from December 1982. I know they weren't "official" until 1983, but 1982s exist. Sorry for nit-picking.

That said, I have a soft spot for 1983, although I'd probably never hesitate on buying any Ibanez from 1976 through 1983. I just think that in 1983, we saw some spectacular quality guitars for LP lovers, Strat lovers, Hollow Box lovers...lots of stuff that would rival custom-made instruments. Man, would I love to go back in time and place an order...!!!!!

Ok, I'll settle for 1983.

Aren't we glad we're not really limited to a single year? Some of the models that I seek came in other years: AM400, GB30, the Lonestar series to name a few.

It is quite common to see this. Ibanez often starts production the year before a model shows up in the catalog.

Ace,

I'm with you on the GB30. I want one in a bad way. It could almost be described as a single cut AM. But supposedly has a dark and mellow sound. I remember a few years ago one showed up on eBay with no model info and a bad picture, and no one here could figure out what it was. I think it sold for around $600. Last one I saw on eBay went for twice that. We're so much wiser now :-)

1979.

All of the years mentioned above are great. My choice, however is purely emotional. That is the birthday of my beloved 2630. I found her unloved and in a pawn shop in '85. It was the first really good guitar I owned after too many years of playing crap. Also it was picked out with the support of a favorite aunt (R.I.P.)who saw that look we all get when we're smitten by a cool guitar. I think lovingly of my dear aunt every time I play that special 2630.

Yea, '79 is my favorite Ibanez year!

Hi Sven,

There was a GB30BK on eBay a couple of months ago but I got my mind set on a GB30 in transparent red. I'm probably aiming too high?

This is a tough one for me because they keep coming out with new designs so I'll base this from a vintage perspective.
