Just wondering if you guys have any other non ibanez favorites?
i recently aquired a few guitars made by canadian joe lado. great guitars and after picking up my 5th lado, i've come to terms with the fact i am slowly becoming a lado collector as well.

Although I am a diehard Vintage Ibanez collector, I have accumulated quite an extensive collection of Electra guitars from the 70's as well......Very Nice

Those Lado's look really nice. Money permitting, I could see getting into handcrafted guitars. I have been looking at Yamaha and Carvin lately.

Although I will always be an Ibanez fan, and I will always have at least a couple Roadstars, I must admit that my little herd is diversifying (one of each: Destroyer, S-Series, Joe Satriani, X-Series, plus 4 Roadstars).

In addition, I am developing a serious liking for some of Fender's offerings as well as a Godin LG w/P90's.

I have a Fender Toronado on layaway... clipart{biggrin}

My other interest is Brian Moore Guitars, I have an MC/1 and a C-90 and these are my workhorse guitars because they are so diverse in sound and fully modern in feel, tone and hardware.

While it is easy to slam F and G, I have a 61' strat and late sixties tele which are both stellar, as well as 61' epiphone crestwood which also a real killer.

We are all very lucky, there are many excellent instruments to choose from!!

My other passion, guitar wise, is Tokai's. I have a '99 Love Rock which is excellent, especially now I have put a set of Bare Knuckle Pickups (hand scatter wound in the UK) in it. "Bluey" sounds brilliant through my TK999US.

I've only got the one Tokai at the moment, but that's the one that I most definitely AM keeping! I've had 2 other Love Rock's, a '99 Custom (px'ed for "Bluey") and an '01 Standard (px'ed for a StingRay). I'd love another, but can neither afford or justify it to myself yet, I guess I've not found the right one yet (though my local music shop have a black Korean Tokai Firebird in that's just gorgeous!).

Hi all!

Apart from my -in the meantime- 100-piece Ibanez collection I have a few others too:
My "baby" throughout many years of bassplaying still is my '76 Fender Precision (modified with one additional pickup near the bridge), a truely magnificent '82 Tokai Love Rock (modified with Gibson Pafs and Shaller tuners) which I would NEVER trade for a real Gibson, a great '84 Tokai Stratocaster, modified with two DiMarzio's)
a barking (high output pups!!) Pearl bass from the seventies, a great Aria Les Paul Junior with two P90-like pickups, a Morris Les Paul Junior copy with one P90, an "El Cheapo" telecaster, which I reliqued to the looks of an old '50s Fender telecaster (even a fanatic Fender-addict in my neighbourhood thought it was a "real thing" at first sight), oh yeah, almost forgot my new sunburst Richwood Les Paul, which I reliqued to the looks of a late '50s burst (yes, with fake logo's, 50's serial number and all). This one was shown for a while in the guitar shop where I work and it was very amusing to see the reactions of the customers...("no..is it really?....can I just hold it for a second?.....wow....never thought to be in the opportunity to ever hold one in my life...")
Right now I'm at my work, but when I'm home I'll see if I can put on some pictures of the reliqued
tele and les paul, that is: if you're interested.....
Kind greetz,
Harry

Okay then....here we go with the Richwood. I just found out that don't have the relic Tele on disk, but I'll see to it that Í have it done soon, so that you can see that "project" too.
First three shots are the original looks of the Richwood, the last three pictures are of what I made of it......

Nice work, Harry!
Did you use a 'real' burst for comparison or one of the Gibson Reissues?
Also, is that a headstock splice? Let's see the rear with serial number if you're OK with that.
Have you considered showing your relic'd Richwood on the Les Paul Forum?

Hi Guitartim!

At this moment I'm on my work. I'll put a picture of the back of the headstock on this evening.
Yeah...maybe a nice idea to put the pictures on the Les Paul board with something like: "Hey guys, look what I've got" and just wait for the comments to come..
A real Les Paul coinesseur should be able to immediately see that this is no real Gibson, mainly because on this Richwood the burst on the upper bout (around the 3-way switch) is following the edges of the body, where a real Les Paul has the total upper bout section sprayed dark.

By the way: the headstock is the Richwood's original headstock, only I reshaped it (to "open book shape"), sanded off the "Richwood" plate, put a new thin plastic layer on the face of the headstock, applied the decals, gave it a few layers of transparent laquer, put on a correct-shaped trussrod cover and finally reliqued the whole thing by deliberately making dings & dongs and damages like it had 40 years of Rock & Roll... I have the process pictured, so I'll put these on as well.

Fun Topic! Now that I picked up a spare, I can safely say I have gotten back to my roots-- loving strats. Jimi Hendrix, Mark Knopfler... you get the idea. The guitars I am referring to are a couple of the Squire Protone models, which were made in Korea for two years (96/97). Solid ash bodies, lightweight, alnico pickups-- the best strats I have ever heard, and the neck is a bit on the thin side, so they are easy to play. They came in various colors and finishes, aren't hard to find on ebay, and are cheap because of the word "squire" on the headstock. (If you like vintage type strats, these are a steal!) Otherwise, IMHO, they'd cost at least double what they go for. Still, they are greatly outnumbered by my Ibanezes. I worked up a complete 16-track demo myself on Saturday, and I used my black ghostrider with the P90s, my lawsuit ibanez jazz bass, and my SC550 (solid body nylon string electric guitar), all of which served me well except I might go back and replace the SC550 part with a protone. The ghostrider is an outstanding guitar, IMHO. And they are cheap (for now)!!!

I don't know about you, but my cheapest guitars tend to be my best guitars, and that's why I have hesitated to get into the furniture guitars. I just have a feeling, as beautiful as they are, that the furniture guitars just won't sound as good and/or play as well as my beloved cheapies.

Know what you mean about 'furniture guitars'. I've an old Gibbo LP which I like coz it has no flame, lots of dings and has had a hard life. But I still prefer my Blazer as its almost bullet-proof. I'd never buy a guitar purely coz it has a nice top - they're for playing. Still want a flamed Artist though...........

My modest collection:

1971 Martin D-28
1992 Rickenbacker 360/6 Fireglo

197x Ibanez 2355M Natural (considering selling)
1979 Ibanez Musician MC300DS
1982 Ibanez SB70 (rarely played, considering selling)
1983 Ibanez AM-255

I told my wife I would sell the 2355M when I bought the AM-255 in January, but I'm having a hard time bringing myself to actually sell it.

I am only a hobbyist, so it is hard to justify keeping them all.

Well. . .If we're only talking about electrics here. . .

I've been a huge Fender buff for most of my life. I just recently discovered how amazing Ibanez electrics are! My collection is as follows:

1994? Fender 52 Reissue Strat in Blue "FotoFlame" (Japan)

1997 Fender 72 Reissue Thinline Tele (Japan)

1995 Fender Strat Plus (USA)

1999 Fender Fat Strat Texas Special (USA)

1994 Fender Tele with Lindy Fralin Pickups (Mex)

2000 Fender Jazz Bass V with Bartolini pickups and Sadowsky Active preamp (Mex)

1992 Gibson Les Paul Studio

Newish Hamer Echotone 335 Style

Newish Ibanez Artcore AF75

probably missing something. . .but oh well. . .i'm really hoping to pick up some Artstar stuff, an AS200, and maybe some Tokai guitars?

I was well on my way to completing my Ibanez "Korina" collection. I had three Destroyers, a Rocket Roll Sr. and a Destroyer Bass. All I needed was a Rocket Roll Bass and Futura. Unfortunately, I ran into a 1960 Les Paul TV that I just had to have, and without the requisite cash on hand I was forced to do some horse trading. I still, however, have the two Destroyers that will follow me to my grave.

I tend to collect Japanese copies that look almost exactly like the guitars they try to emulate except for the actual name on the peghead, as well as some outright forgeries (as to their origins, I plead the 5th). I don't however, like bolt on versions of set neck guitars such as the Deluxe '59er or Rocket Roll (Jr.?).

My current replica collection includes:
2 Ibanez Destroyers
2 Fernandes Strats w/ bogus Fender decals
2 Fender Japan reissue teles, a Paisly & a Thinline (Do reissues qualify as replicas?)
A Univox Limited Edition (LP Jr.)
A Rickenbacker 330ish copy of unknown mfg. (looks like a Matsumoku product).

The reason I started collecting, was the fact that there are so many very good guitars, that do not have the respect and pricing of F's and G's. I love variation, so it was easy to justify having several $200-$400 guitars instead of just one $1500. Since I feel I deserve a $1500 guitar, I just had to get several cheap ones!

Due to availability and sheer quality, I have ended up with mostly Ibanezes. Roadstars and Blazers are all over, and are very good guitars.

The MC300 is the only one I wish I wouldn't have sold. Although, I did get a marvellous deal.

My current collection, basses not included:

Ibanez:
-Roadstar II RG140 '86
-Roadstar II RG140 '86 (bought as a failed project)
-BL50 '81
-ST100 '79
-Roadstar II RG200 '86 (For sale)
-SZ520QM AMB '03 (For sale)
-Artcore AK85 '05
-Roadstar II RS125 '82
-Roadstar Custom 580B '87? (540R '87 neck)
-Roadstar II RG440 '85 (For spares)

Strat:
-Fender Am Dlx '87 (abused)
-Samick Valley Arts (needs a fretjob)

Others:
-Fernandez Dragonfly Pro
-Samick SAB650 (semi, For sale)
-Yamaha RGX520FZ '05

Guitars I used to have:

-Squier Strat 80's
-Ibanez AM255 '85 (semi)
-Ibanez MC300 '78
-Ibanez AR300 '81
-Fenix Strat blonde 90's
-Ibanez RS1010SL '83?
-Daion Power Mark XX (70-80's Japan)
-Suzuki Strat (Japan, Tokai, '80?)
-Ibanez CN200iw '78
-Jackson PS-7 (Ibanez Blazer '95 -pickups)
-Ibanez RS1010SL(2nd) '83?

Dave_G,

The first other brand you mentioned was Suzuki.
I happen to have one Suzuki ES-335 model myself. It is walnut with a visible maple sustainblock in the middle and it has a brass nut. It has gold hardware. The original humbuckers were black. I never saw a picture of it on the web, and I don't know the type number (no label). How does/do your Suzuki(s) look like?

Fave amp. Not in that picture. Although the amp on the far left is a 65 Deluxe Reverb, I actually prefer my 64 Deluxe. No reverb in that model but it looks the same.. almost. It's my desert island amp. Of course, that would have to be a desert island with electricity on tap.

John, I have several of them. Very nice guitars-built like a brick house with stock Dimarzios, German carve, ebony boards-real quality much like the Univox Performer and the Vantage of the same era-very typical high quality Matsumoko

The Hidden gems-IMHO-and the "next Ibanez" are the Electra guitars from the mid 70's to 1983. I just finished a restore on a top of the line LP type (called the Pro Endorser)....Sick bookmatched 3/4" maple top, full binding, Killer pickups (Super Magnaflux), flame maple headstock, smooth heel (very nicely done) Push/Pull pots...Unreal sound-LP KILLER ! Bought it on EBay for $225-with case ! I think these guitars will greatly increase in value over the next several years. Electra was "Known" for the guitars with the on board effect modules that plug into the back...Elvin Bishop, Peter Frampton, and Leslie West were early endorsers of these guitars and even have "signature" models. These guitars were VERY CHEAP up until around a year ago, but they are still an incredible value in todays market.

Ibanezkid~ For a '12 year old', you sure have a ton of gear!!

When I was twelve, I had two guitars, one was a $50 acoustic with strings 1/2" off of the fretboard, and the other one was a used cigar box and rubber bands!

Most 12-year olds don't have the income to support a collection like that. I think suspicion is warranted.

However, I wouldn't "imply" that you are not 12. I'd come right out and say it.

So how do you afford all those guitars?

My latest creations. First you take a cheapo Gibson "classic" Les Paul reissue (these came out in the early 90's with the 1960 reissues, weird green inlays and super hot open coil pups)add a pair of "Burst Bucker Pros" (Super pups really nail the Vintage Super 70 sound . Then add a pair of vintage (1971) Gibson embossed covers and you wind up with a great looking guitar with plenty of guts !

Whether you're 12 or 34(like me) it's definitely not hard to drum up some cash for gear. Right now I have about $2000 worth of gear that started out about 2 months ago as a bunch of DVDs and fishing lures that I sold on the Bay. Not a single penny has come from my income. Through a series of good buys, trades, and sales I have perpetuated my gear. It pays to do your homework on this stuff. Another couple of months and I should have about $5000 in gear. All from crap laying around the house. So don't let 'em give you any s#%^ about being young and "where did you get all that money"!!!!

Wow, not a single mention of Taylor?! I know you guys are mostly talking about electrics here, but I have to admit I'm surprised. From what I've heard, the Taylor T-5 is a really fine electric. I imagine they'll start showing up in peoples' collections in a few years.

I'm getting my second Taylor acoustic next week; this one's a vintage 1984 maple-bodied jumbo 12-string. It joins a 2004 grand concert 6-string. Both are real works of art. I'll post a picture soon.

Hi Guys, I love the Ibanez stuff ofcourse but I collect the high end Yamahas of the 1990s also so........ Yamaha Pacifica 1421 [dark gray metallic] .......Yamaha Weddington Custom [Natural Top]..........Yamaha Weddington Classic [metallic black]- [the entire guitar body/neck]............Yamaha Weddington Classic metallic red top...........Yamaha SBG-2500[wine color] very rare, only seen one other on a website in Japan and that was sold.Yamaha guitars are incredible overlooked guitars that could be bought for a song not long ago..........now for SBG-2000 or the fancier 3000 in excellent or better they have become very spendy.Dave I love the top on that Pro Endoser Lp by Electra thats a very hard to find model,a beautiful guitar! Anyon interested in Electras, this beauty is on ebay now....This model is top of the line limited edition.at least as good if not better than any Ibanez LP copy. Brass nut & Bridge, 5/8" bm flamed maple capped Mohagany, unique smooth heel full access, maple flame headstock, push/pull pots, Super magnaflux pups (KILLER !). well worth investigating. These 60th ann. ones are sequentially numbered with a brass plate on the back of the headstock-this is the same guitar as the Cherry burst earlier in this thread

Your photos (Ibanezkid Jamming and Freaks daughter) made me think, How many of us have budding Rockstars who may learn on and continue to play an Ibanez in our collection. As I have said before, my 13 year old daughter has now fallen in love with my Maxxas. Here she is posing... hopefully now she will stick with it and learn to love my passion!

Les...

Unless your talking about my Dove/Peace sing strap. I have had that for years (at least since the early 70's.) I don't really use that one as a strap anymore. I just keep it cause I love the Vintage look. I think it is likely a strap from the 60's but I don't know for sure. I always liked the way it looked draped across the Custom Agent that way. I never really played that guitar, just had it sitting around for eye candy. The strap just seemed to fit with it.

Learning Keys is always good. Makes me remember when my parents "made" me take piano for 8 years as a kid. The guitar was the one instrument they were not keen on (you know D/S/RocknRoll and all). That was in the 60's and 70's as a kid for me. I picked up guitar on my own in 1977 and have never looked back. Lessons learned playing piano, cello and trumpet for a number of years helped me to just pick it up and learn on my own. It is the only instrument I play regurely now at 46 years old.
