Gibson 336. Has anyone here tried one...

Balance? Quality? Does it sound like a 335? I scored an almost new CS356 models that was ordered from Gibson's Custom Direct program a few years ago. 336/356 look and feel like an Ibanez AM. Unlike the AM however, the new Gibbies have solid maple tops (plain or figured) over a carved out mahogany body. As you know, AM's have burl mahogany tops. The 336/356 sounds like a cross between a high end Custom Shop Les Paul and 335. Most have a 'slim taper' neck, which is very close feel to an early AS200/2630 neck carve. All come with Classic 57 pickups and either stoptail or a Bibsby upgrade. The Custom Direct model I have is a one-off in many ways. It has a non-bound headstock (like CS336/LP), binding everywhere else, abalone cloud inlays on ebony board, fat 59 neck carve, and Bigsby tailpiece. Yes it is a fantastic player too. If you get a chance to score either a CS336 or 356 you will be a very happy man...but a little poorer like me.   Guitartim Username: Guitartim Registered: 4-2001 Posted on Monday, March 26, 2007 - 4:13 pm:    Note: There are two '336' models...the ES-336 is a discontinued model and the CS-336 is still being produced by Gibson's Custom Shop. I was hoping the guitar would have a fat chunky 59 style neck as this is my preffered comfort zone these days. However, the 2630 feel is pretty nice so I'll go and investigate.
