How many of you still have Gibson dealers in your area? We have one left locally (not counting Guitar Dungeon).

I don't know about PA, but in Cleveland Sam Ash lost its license to sell Gibsons. I assumed it was only because of poor sales, but I then found out that Gibson has invested in GC. Looks like they want to make GC an almost exclusive Gibson dealer. Wierd strategy, but true. But without significant competition, GC can probably increase its selling price on Gibsons. I always heard that Gibson's wholesale price was closer to list price than any other manufacturer, making it hard for a store to survive on Gibson sales alone.

Sam Ash Cleveland, a better store IMHO, has unfortunately been shrinking its inventory. Not sure what this means, but it doesn't look good.

Well gibson is also competing with the low end market and they are selling low priced stuff themselves probably trying to survive like the rest of them. In my opinion Gibson makes some trashy product these days.

I often lurk - occaisonally post - on the LP forum and all they ever seem to do is moan about the quality of the stuff being churned out nowadays ( and lets see your flametop mate). Some of the fretwork could be done better by chimpanzees

No wonder even the 70s stuff is going up in value.

The company I work for was a Gibson dealer for 40 years. Gibson changed the qualifications for dealers last year. There were about 15 Gibson dealers in Oregon in 2003. There are 2 left that I know of. One of them is Guitar Center. You figure it out...
