Hi JohnS,

I noticed the adwords you are running. I understand you are trying to earn some money to cover your expenses for keeping this site up but please be so kind to put those ads on fixed position instead of using these annoying floating layers. I promise I will click an ad everytime I visit ICW.

JohnM:

Thanks for the suggestion. Anybody else want to weigh in on this? Are the floating ads a problem for anyone or just annoying?

Yeah, for a second there I thought some spyware had creeped onto my 'puter.

The floating layer seems to have disappeared.. Not sure if it's related to the entry point (as michael suggested).

It floats with Mozilla Firefox. I don't use Internet Explorer. However, as I said above, I bypass the home page, so, it's not a problem for me.

I've never seen any of these ad words. I always bypass the home page, and I have my browser set to block popups.

Well JohnS,

Since everybody seems to bypass the homepage I guess you have you move the ads to the discussion page to make sure everybody sees them. I think you want them to be seen.....

Paul

By the way: if these ads help you running this site, put on some more and annoy me a little. I'll still see the plus of your site!

@ JohnS: Don't know if this board software allows you to modify the code but if I were you I would place the AdSense tag is placed in every post. This way you probably get the most out of it.

I don't mind having a peek at the at the code if you like.

JohnS,

As far as supporting the site, I would have no problems with a making a little donation every so often. May be more effective (and less annoying) than popups.

Sven:

Thanks for the offer. I hate to appear to be begging. These aren't really popups they should be static on the page...it's just that they move to stay on the screen rather than scroll off.

A few of us have been here a while now. How would everyone feel about an annual subscription to help out the site?

You don't have to join but maybe if there was such a thing then registered subscribers would get some concessions, first refusals, perks... whatever?

Just a thought.

The highest donor get's a Cowboy Fancy guitar? :-) Just kidding.

I don't see it as begging at all. This site is a very valuable place for a lot of us. We're all friends, there's no reason that we shouldn't help pick up the tab once and a while. I say create an optional anonymous paypal contribution option. This way people wouldn't be pressured.

John, care to mention the Innovation link and the "profit sharing" deal ? The purpose of that link was to provide some cash flow to help with the bandwith....BTW not one member has taken advantage of the discount !

Dave: Looks like you just did.

To all: Dave_g *is* Innovation Luggage. We made a arrangement to give a discount to anyone buying from Innovation Luggage via the internet and using the "Ibanez" promo code. A portion of the discount goes to help ICW.

Also, Phoenix Creative Graphics is the parent company behind ICW.

Patronize the "friends" of ICW to help support the site!

I was so annoyed by the "Ads by Google" I deleted Google from my computer trying to get rid of it.

OK, now I have the Google ad words on the bottom my window. Every time I scroll, the ad menu hangs in the middle of the page before dropping down. That is thoroughly annoying, and I would gladly pay money to make it go away :-)

To All:

We are experimenting with placement and schemes for Google and Ebay. Feel free to weigh in on what you like or not, but remember the final decisions are mine. Being overly critical without being specific, will probably not help the cause.

John - No offense, but the floating layer is really annoying. Especially with long threads that you have to click then scroll to the bottom. That layer is just all over the place.

I can deal with it no problem, but it is a bit of an eyesore. As with others, I'd have no problem contributing to the cause, and I certainly will use Innovation Luggage if I need any luggage. I'm about due for a new laptop backpack, but other than that.

What about an RSS feed? *very big grin*

Strangely enough, the floating ads only appeared on my PC today. What's more, they don't appear in every thread I viewed today, most but certainly not all.

While responding to this particular thread, all I'm seeing is a white line floating in the RH pane, although in Preview: New Message, they are completely visible.

I have no problem with you having ads on the site, it's a decision driven by commercial reality. However, I would prefer not to have the floating one in the RH pane. Maybe you could instead have a static ad as per the E-Bay, Phoenix Graphics & Innovation Luggage ads in the LH pane.

Looks like the floating ad experiment failed. I'll have them taken out. They'll probably reappear somewhere as static ads.

Right now, the eBay ad is featuring an auction for "Kalea, the reptile woman" on VHS. A 'vintage' film directed by J. IBANEZ

"Shot in Mexico, Boris Karloff plays Damballah, a voodoo cultist who's assisted by an evil dwarf and a Kalea, the reptile woman in turning people into mindless zombies. A lot of underlying sexuality and snakes in one of the last films to be made before his death. Director Jack Hill (Spider Baby) worked on the American release."

Voodoo, dwarfs and reptiles is always a good combo :-)

Thanks for pointing out the weird and humorous side effect of ebay's system. We believe that we've fixed the problem. But if you see something weird again, let me know.
