I just received a copy of the Ibanez/TAMA "New Stuff At NAMM 2006" catalog. Nothing unusual until I got to page 9...

Artist fans, brace yourselves. There's a couple new family members. The ARC single cutaway models with fine-tuning tailpieces and ARX with an extended upper horn and Cloud tailpiece (referred to as a "three-screw sustain plate"). All feature a narrowed Castle headstock similar to the old Artstar (AM300/400) design.

Although the "Artcore" name isn't shown, these are priced like Artcore series models. Lists are $533 and $399.

Page 10 shows the familiar AXS42 upgraded a with smooth-heel neck joint.

On page 11 there is a new George Benson model! The GB15TR adds a coil-tap function to the floating GB Special pickup.

"...three screw sustain plate..."?!!

That sounds like something from Hannibal Lechter's S & M Cafe!

GB15TR: Does that translate to a 'Trans Red' finish? And why would anyone coil tap a jazz box? Or is it a semi-hollow...or solid model? Whatever it is, I gotta see it.

Hopefully Johns will give us a complete NAMM report...with pictures.

The ARC reminds me of a Yamaha AES

Well I couldn't resist the temptation, the ARC300 just looks too cool, so I grabbed one off eBay. I'll post pics and a review when I get it.

Funkle,

I couldn't resist either. I just bought an AGS83BATF. I've had enough time on it to know it feels pretty damn good. Not too shabby for the price.

I still can't stand the ACH pups, especially in the bridge position. This is the second guitar I've had with them and I sold the other. The purist in me can't bring myself to swap them out, although I'm dying to hear what the combination of a vintage 58/neck and V2/bridge would do for the guitar...

You are too much of a purist, the first thing I'm going to do is replace the pickups. These guitars are great but they need a little help.
