Looks like the Philly Guitar show is moving to NJ.

New Location: Great American Guitar Show, July 14-15 at the Garden State Exhibit Center, 50 Atrium Dr., Somerset, NJ 08873.

This is really good news for me. I live 15 minutes away!

Freak:

And the Garden State Exhibit Center is very easy to access from Rt. 287.

I'm really excited. Several year's ago I stayed overnight in Valley Forge, so I could attend for 2 days. That year, I bought my '72 Martin D35 out in the parking lot of the hotel. This year I can actually think about doing that again. Attending the show for 2 days, that is...not buying another D35. :-)

Jeff:

Hmmmm, that's an idea. :-)

We're supposed to get together to compare the old and new 2670, anyway. I'd love to do that before July, though. Drop me an email if you want to get together before then.

Sounds like FUN!!! We're booked Fri & Sat nights, but I might make 6 hours, to Jersey, for guitars & beers with you hosers on Sunday!

...and Chris... of course we'll let you know... if you haven't exploded & burst into flame by July! (I must say... I'm NOT optimistic that you'll last 3 months!)

...worst damned case of GAS I've ever seen or heard of.

It could be that some of us could be standing right next to each other at the show and not even know it. I'd recognize John and Dave though.

Almost here............ and, it's weird but, I always know in advance when I am going to forget something important... if anyone feels like reminding me... off-site as show approaches, that would be nice. If not... I should write it down somewhere I guess. Maybe I will make a little ICW name tag, in case I get seperated from my mommy. Plus... you'd guys would recognize it. Who's definitely going?

Dave, Bob, Freak, etc.:

As this is the first year it's going to be in the Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset, NJ, I don't know anything about the layout of the hall and where to meet. I/m pretty sure there is a refreshment area. Maybe we could meet there, on Sat., at noon?

Is anyone planning on bringing a guitar? They usually take a $1.00 off the admission. I really wouldn't mind seeing an AR5000 or Cowboy, up close. :-)

Try typing "guitar show" into Google and see what you come up with. Vintage Guitar mag's listing has a couple of shows in TX: http://www.vintageguitar.com/events/default.asp

Johns,

I'd love to meet you, but as it turns out that we're committed to playing one-nighters Fri., Sat. & Mon. nights. (Mon. just popped up today. Good money/bad timing.)

A 14 hour round-trip in between is just too much to handle for my tired, old .

Perhaps another time... another show... I hope!

My cell phone is in 800 ft. water off the coast of New Jersey. I took a day off work a while back and my phone was ringing so much (job related) that the rest of the guys on the boast said, "Bob either you or that phone are going in the water so... which one is it?" Yes... I coulda turned the ringer off and whatever but I hated the thing anyways.... so.... into the abyss it went. Haven't gotten another one since. And life is so much better without it. My girl has one, she's accompanying me. I'd better ask her first if she minds me giving out the #. I don't think she'll mind and I will shoot you the # off-site in a bit when I clear it with her. I plan on being there right around the opening bell. I hope this show is better than the last one I went to. Philly is about a 2 1/2 hr. - 3 hr. trek for me.

I'm leaving here to pick up the shirt in about 15 mins. Maybe I can get a target on there before I leave the premises.

I think I've given Hoshino/Ibanez a decent amount of exposure in NY. The article on the ar5000 in 20th Century Guitar magazine, the Newsday article with the ar1200 and the ar5000 photos (600,000 circulation), my license plate on my PT Cruiser, this t-shirt. Happy to do it... their guitars have made me very happy for a long time.

Well I just got home from the show. WE had a good time. There were a few vintage Ibanez but that was it. A MC400 natural finish for $850 I think in good shape. Me, Bob,John, amd Dave G all got to hang out and talk about our favorite subject....BEER! oops I mean guitars. I did more yapping then looking at them but that was my whole reason for going. To hang out with some ICW folks and I enjoyed it. John has pics that he will upload I'm sure. Anyway its off to nap!

Hey Johns:

Pleasure meeting you yesterday. How ironic that we would meet...over a 2622. Go figure?! I'm sorry that I wasn't able to hook up with you and the rest of you guys earlier in the day. It would have been nice to meet some other folks from the board.

Thanks again for the shirt and for taking the time to chat. I'll definitely be on board for some of the upcoming area shows.

Take care,

Trisound (John)

Here's some pictures of the ICW members that I met on Sat.

GangofFour

And here's Trisound:
GangofFour

Yes, that's an LP Artist he's holding. He was trying hard to sell it. We both had a gander at the 2622AV in the flight case. It was the best piece of the show.

It was good to see/meet you guys. Decent show, some nice and some weird axes. I'd say maybe 30 IBZ axes there altogether. 2 mc400's actually. One NT one DS and I think they wanted $1k ea. for them. There was an ar100 for $350, it had a little neck joint issue and missing the cloud. I have a bunch of photos, won't be able to post them for a little while but I will get them up here. Every ICW guy I met at the show is a real nice fellow and it really was so much fun to meet dudes you've "known" for quite some time now. s

I had fun, best thing was meeting ICW folk. To me, these shows tend to be "the same", I went to one in May up here in NY. It was smaller. People mentioned that this show shrunk on the move from Philly to NJ. It was still pretty big to me. There were more than a few $25k to $39k axes there. I found the most interesting stuff to be the pieces from the niche builders. One guy had a pretty decent looking line, a bit off the beaten path with his style and each one was nice. I have his card and I tried to get a photo of his stuff. I may have it, I will look. Weren't many old IBZ's, like I said they wanted $1k for the 2 mc400's, both in decent shape and the ar100 for $350, probably could have talked him down to $300 I bet but the neck was scarey considering you really wouldn't have to pay too much more for one without issues. One neat thing was... every now and then you'd hear someone checking out an axe at a decent volume and some of those players were very good, one guy in particular when I first got there (10 am) was playing slide on a dobro but it was definitely amplified and the guy could play. So... I got to meet ICW folk, lots of nice axes to see, heard some good music being played from time to time. I got to rile some guitar snobs up with my ar5000 t-shirt, got 3 sets of Ernie Ball Super Slinky's .009 for $10. It was fun. Being around several ICW guys really had me wishing we had a few axes around to smash about. That really would have been the icing on the cake. Maybe next time? It was especially good to see Dave G. again ... the dude has done so much for me and my Ibanez's. Plus, he got the chance to needle me in person about snipping those Scruggs wires! That was ceretain;y worth the admission price right there, for Dave, I am sure. Freak is truly a cool dude and it was real neat for me to meet him and his girl. John... even though it was the first time I met him in person, it seemed like I knew him for a long time and John is genuinely one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. Same for Freak and Dave and the other ICW folk down there. I have some more photo shots, I have to look 'em over. If they are worth posting, I will. I had a great time.

Dave:

My apologies on the lack of a shirt. I could have sworn that I sent you one a while back. That's what I was referring to when I asked "where's your shirt?" and you told us the story of your daughter's NY adventures. I could send you one...or we could get together, if your going to have some more free time?

Well, I guess the frirst thing is to get an indication of whom is interested (whom?) Once we have an apprx. # of interested parties, then... we can concern ourselves with the date and venue. I guess me + Freak = 2 interested parties. I guess location should be chosen based on convenience for the largest number of interested parties. I don't want to come across like I am in charge of this... I am just stating I am interested in attending so... I'm all ears. As far as scheduling, I have the whole week off between X-Mas and New Years if that works for anybody. I'll check this thread for more posts from interested parties. If someone decides they want to "oversee/arrange" this ... I'm just letting you know I would like to get together for a jam or whatever. If there is anything I can do to help this along, just let me know. I am in NY.

That's 3. (2 NJ + 1 NY). If anyone wants to chime in with dates that are especially good for them, that wouldn't hurt. Maybe we could rent a cheap hall for an evening like an American Legion Post or something, they usually rent out their space. If it's say $500 (just an example)to rent for an evening and we had ten jammers, it would be $50 ea. for the rental. BYOB (+D).

Hoshino USA if you read this think about sponsoring this event! It would be a great oppurtunity to highlight the reissue's. You could let us test drive the AR5000!!

Drummers........... I was going a differnt way with that. <grin>

My four kids all play drums. Go figure, I have a few thousand invested in guitars, and what do they play? I still have hope for my 13 year old girl. She is the only one who shows intereste. Go figure... as a young guy, I figured the girls always went for the guitar players and all my boys do is tub thump and play hockey!

Lo... drums were my first instrument of choice. My buddy stuck my drum sticks through every single drum head and... that was the end of it. It's been guitars ever since. I wasn't a lousy drummer, (I was very very young), it's just that he was a nut. I'm still friends with him, 40 years later. He's a good man and I'm glad he wrecked those drums, otherwise... I wouldn'y have my nice Ibanez guitars today.

For now, I don't mind them not playing guitar. Then they won't ask to "borrow" any of mine as they move out after college! As for my daughter, if she keeps practicing, I have a feeling the Maxxas might go with her when she leaves, but that is at least 5-6 years away.
