Ok., my son and I go to the grand opening of the new Guitar Center. We get in line, we are about 100th in line. 1 1/2 hours later the doors open, we get our t-shirts and go in the store, all the while some obnoxious band is playing in the parking lot at an unbelievable volume, i finally get my hearing back after 3 days, the store is so packed you cant hardly move. we look around alittle , think to myself, can hardly hear myself though, that i will come back in a few weeks when the commotion dies down. see some nice guitars, mostly low end models, thinks to myself, the didnt put the high end guitars out on purpose, still having a hard time hearing myself think. We go back outside to wait for the drawing of the prizes, yes at the band tent. I think i have permanent hearing loss, and some of my tooth fillings are coming out. The prize drawing starts, nothing, nada, zip. Then finally , the last drawing is for one of 5 chances at $20,000. I couldnt hear but my son is kicking, hitting, biting, anything to get my attiontion, you see, im deaf, my name was the 4th drawn, sos i go up on stage and wait my turn. there was a see thru safe with $20,000 of fake money, all one has to do is key 3 numbers of the safes combo and it is all your. Well, the three people in front of me have their turn, nothing. now its my turn, i punch the # 4, green light, wow only two numbers to go and that money is mine( read= wifes), well i missed the second and third numbers but i did have a chance at the money. so we go to the car and drive home. Im thinking to myself that now i dont have to drive 2-3 hours one way to go to a decsent guitar store . My son and i have a blast and a cool tshirt so it was worth going. I also realized 2 things: the louder you can turn up the volume makes the masses think you can play, and 2nd, my soloing isnt have bad, so i feel good about myself.sure wished i could hear.

Great story, Bob. I can really relate!

God, I hate those Grand Opening things.

Not too fond of GC either, but if it saves that kind of mileage...

Bob:

Great story. Too bad about missing out on the "big prize". $20k would have paid for a REAL good hearing aid. :-)
