I've tried them Bob, There sweet! Have you ever tried Tacoma acoustic guitars? I own a solid Koa Jumbo that is the best sounding and playing acoustic I've ever had my hands on IMHO. I did some upgrades which I would recommend. Change the saddle to bone, ivory, or as I did fossilized walrus ivory. It makes a huge difference in sound. Here is a link that explains why pretty well:

Tube, I've never tried one of those but... I will when the opportunity arises.

John, I had gone to the shop to trade my BC Rich for a halfway decent acoustic/electric which I desperately needed for a recording project. I had just about arranged that deal and the owner says... "Bob... check out this J-200." It was pretty awesome. It was a 6 string, it was $3000. Right next to it was the 12 string I wound up taking home. (I'm going back for the J-200 in a little while. In any event, you know how it is, if the axe has that "special something" it's hard to walk away from it. The 12'er I took home is pretty exceptional, I will post photo's soon. I used it to record the other day and man, it's phenomenal. A very well balanced (as far as tone and high /low end) Plays like a dream, it's a sweet looker and it's awesome plugged in or not so... that's my story, I'm happy to have it and it came with the Gib case for $2,000 out the door. They list at apprx. $2300 I think. I actually got mine for $1850 technically. I'd recommend them. This one I got must be brand spankin' new because, the wood smells really good. I think I sat there smelling this guitar, longer than I played it. I am swapping out the cream string pijns for black with pearl tips, then I will post photos. I also picked up an Ibanez PF12NT 6 string acoustic earlier in the day. You know what... it's a contender! I can't believe it, it's a pretty sweet little acoustic I got for $85. I've spent alot more than $85 for some acoustics I've owned and this Ibanez PF12NT is surprisingly nice nice nice. It's loud, crisp, balanced and pretty, I'm gonna try to track down some info on them because... I have no knowledge about them.

Hey... does anyone know anything about this PF12NT? I tried tracking down info but came up with zich. I'm excited about that little guitar because... it is surprisingly excellent. It's a real guitar with all the qualities I would like in a decent little acoustic. I paid $85... but it's a sweetie for sure. I can't find anything about it. I will post photos. I am waiting for pieces of other guitars to come back from california, waiting for satan's axe to be back together, waiting to change the string pins in the Gibson... when all that's done I will post photo's. But I wanna learn about the PF12NT 6 string acoustic. If I read the serial # it should be a 1997 model. Ineteresting little guitar.

Tube... went there, found 'em, would like to order. However... I am not so technically astute with this kind of thing.
Do you know which size I should order for the 12 string songwriter's deluxe? I like those pins, pretty neat. I'm going for the ones pictured on the left when you there. Black with the pearlie tips. Can you help me? I'm sorry if this is an imposition on you. You can tell me to figure it out myself, but by the time I do that, the Sun may implode. The white ones the axe came with are pretty "hefty" actually. They look bigger than other pins I've seen/had in the past.

Hey Bob,
Contact Bob Colosi. That is his site. He helped me out with my pins and saddle for my Tacoma. He loves talking about this kind of stuff. You can also call him on the phone. I talked with him for the better of 20 minutes about saddles and pins and the sound differences between materials. He's also a musician!
Peace

Thanx guys and yes.... Freak. It's actually a real nice instrument, I'm real happy with it. For $2300 (which they ask for these, it better be solid wood. You can't tell it's acoustic/electric just from looking at it. You plug in thru the strap button and the vol. control is actually inside the sound hole, it's pretty neat. It's nice to look at too. Will post photos soon. Nice Tacoma by the way, Tube.

I personaly don't see how much they can really change the sound. They strings are only anchored by the pins, the vibration as we all know is between the saddle and nut. Although I changed the pins on my Tacoma to ebony but thats because the originals were cheap looking.

Nice axe Tube, nice price. It reminds me of an old IBZ acoustic I had, but I forget the model #. It was nice though. Freak, I can't see a $300 sound improvement by sticking animal parts in the bridge as pins. No way. Yes,. may be some improvement but... $300 for string pins? I dunno....

The black ones with inlaid tips I got when I bought this guitar were just thrown in the deal but they were only $10 for a set of 12 if you had to pay for 'em. That's a $290 difference. I think I'll go with the $10 set. The guy with the walrus/buffalo stuff called me but I missed his call, maybe I can work something out with him today if he calls back. Does anybody know anything about that PF12NT I got?

I checked Bruce's site, he does have the black ones and they are quite affordable. I guess they do have Buffalo wandering around Saigon somewhere. I dislike making payment arrangements with the orient. It's a pain in the butt, but... on Monday, I'll pull the trigger on 12 of Bruce's buffalo (or Walrus) black pins. I'd buy 'em from here in the USA if I can find 'em.... cheap. How can someone charge $150 for 6 pins and the next guy charge $10? I dunno. Are American Buffalo more expensive than the Vietnamese buffalo?

Here's a guy that came over from the Ibanez site, and I think he wants to sell his '77 670 (6-string, unfortunately)... Anyway, he's wondering what a price might be, maybe you could advise him on his maple beauty.

Hey Guys,
The Tacoma 12 in this thread I just received. It has major top warping. That wasn't disclosed in the auction. He only described a finish flaw which is common with these guitars. What do you think my recourse is? Refund? or have the seller pay for repairs if their willing? I don't know if the bracing has become unglued.

Tube, it's an acoustic. Sorry to say this because I know it's gonna be a disappointment for you but... there's no way in hell I'd keep the guitar. An acoustic is a much trickier thing to deal with that type flaw on. It most likely will be a recurring problem, even if you address the issues. I say that from experience.

It wasn't specified. You can see in the picture in the close up of the body. The light is bending in the upper part of the sound hole. That is where it is warped. I wish I picked up on that.

Tubescorcher:

Sorry to hear about the problem. Acoustics are more of a risk to buy, sight unseen, because of their comparatively delicate nature. Warped tops and pulled up bridges are too common. Fixing the problem correctly may be more expensive than what you paid for the guitar.

I'd talk to them about returning it. They have a 100% positive feedback that they would hopefully want to keep that way.

Hey Johns,
They have agreed to take it back. I'm gonna find out what it would cost to fix. I paid $450 for the guitar and I know they went new for $1600. If I can get it back in shape for $200 or so I'll probably keep it. We'll see! Thanks for your input!

Tough decision...

The fact that this has happened, indicates that either too heavy strings were used, or the construction of the top was too light.

I think a luthier must straighten and reinforce the top. In order to do that he will have to remove the back of the guitar.

I think you should perhaps better forget about that list price and see the instrument as it IS: a problem child.

Tube, careful you don't get spun up into a bigger ball of wax than you are expecting. If you can get your money back... you're in good shape. If you try to mend the unmendable, it may get expensive and you have no guarantee that it will not reoccur.

Hey Guys,
An update. I took the guitar to my repair tech. He at first said to just send it back. He called his mentor and explained the problem. After looking under the sound board it appears a brace has become unglued. He's now going to nurse it back to health. Repair will be under $100 dollars and the top should be back to normal in a couple of weeks. We'll see!
Thanks for All Your input!!!!

I thought it was somthing simple. That is why I asked for a photo. My older brother used to work for A Loprinzi guitars when they were in Bucks County PA in the 1970's and they were hand built. Anyway he used to fix these problems all the time on peoples guitars. (without removing the back of the guitar) he also passed some of his experience on to me. I'll tell you one guitar to stay away from and that is the Ovation Twin neck acoustic. That is pure crap. The tops begin to warp and bridges lift on the way to the retailers.

Are you in the Phila. area? I live in Blackwood NJ. I would've sent a photo but I took it to the repair tech a day early. He seems confident it we come back to normal. His mentor is a luthier who works in Conshahocken. His name escapes me though. I think they're going to collaberate on fixing my guitar. I hope it goes well for it is a nice instrument.
