Answer honestly. If you found an item you're very interested in, and you discover that the auction is private (bidders identities are kept private), the seller has more than 100 items for sale (some of them are very expensive, with a bunch of bidders on them), many of his auctions are daily auctions, that is, lasts just for one day, prices starting at 1$ for 1000$ items which means he has the risk of selling his items for very cheap price. His feedback is only for sellers (because of his private auctions) and it's 100% positive.
Not to mention that many of the items are placed in VERY WRONG categories (maybe to lure ebayers that they've found a real catch!)
Your insights?

Run, do not walk away from this seller-there are a couple of legitimate reasons to mask an auction, but I don't even bother to look at auctions where the seller needs to hide his identity

Sorry I read this late Tristan..

Like has been said...run, don't walk away. Having a private auction is one thing...I don't mind that...but having your FEEDBACK is. So if by doing so his feedback can't be read, steer clear...way clear.

Lol, it must be early...just so there's no confusion...I meant to say ,imho "having a private auction is no big deal, having your feedback private IS a big deal..it's a deal killer.
