I'm sorry for the quality of the picture but this is the best picture I could take with my camera. Larry played in Saarbrücken, Germany, yesterday evening, great as always, accompanied by his son Trevis on bass, what a tremendous show!

Tim, he was playing the real thing! I managed to take a real good look at his gear after the show and checked to see if he played one of his signature guitars. You don't see that from a small distance but the headstock has small chips off on the sides and top and the body lacquer has cracks all over. The guitar also has 2 (refilled) small screw holes behind the bridge area, maybe a midi pickup was installed once. The signature ones are like new. I doubt that they sound as good as the real one!

I really love the tones he gets from his 335's. I saw him up close a couple of years ago with that same well-used original axe. Larry makes smoke come out of the F-holes his tone is so sweet!

He uses the volume pedal to his the Dumble on the verge of overdrive and then doses the string atttack in a very subtle way to create these wonderful dynamics. The sweetest indeed. His son Trevis was a hammer too, playing his Sadowsky 5 String Jazz Bass in such a funky way. And the best thing is, I will see Larry again next month in Eindhoven in the Netherlands together with Five Great Guitars! Did you see Larry's DVD together with Steve Lukather, Live in Paris?

I've had "Larry Carlton & Steve Lukather Live In Tokyo" in my car CD player for two weeks now!

Different venue...same incredible show as Paris.

Seeing Larry is an inspiring occassion. Here's some pictures of Larry's gear that I took at the Blue Note in NY, on Aug. 28, 2005.

Larry's '68 335 (left) and a back up that was given to Larry by a fan. Also his Dumble setup:

This is Larry's pedalboard:

This is his guitar tech (sorry, I forgot his name) holding his Valley Arts acoustic:

John, he definitely played the one on the left. Do you mind sending me the pictures in the original resolution per mail? I'd like to examine the wiring on the pedal board. Did you also managed to take a picture of his rack with the mackie and the avalon preamp he uses for his acoustic stuff? TIA, Dave.

I saw Larry & Robben Ford this past summer. Robben stole the show. I got Robben to sign the back plates to my Artfield AFD25-AMZ & my American Fat Strat.
