Rory (one of my favorite Bluz guitarists) is well known for his torn up and nasty '65 Strat but he was an avid guitar collector. A display of his guitars in the National Musuem of Ireland (Dublin) reveals that he owned at least 3 Vintage (1978) Ibanez guitars !!!! Two Musicians (MC400 or 500) and a Studio.......He also had a bunch of other Japanese guitars...

One of my faves too, Dave. Saw him live in his trio at the Marquee in London's Soho in the early '70's. Raw bluespower emanating from that decimated Strat and twin Vox AC30's. The crowd went mental! Also on that show, he played acoustic slide (may have been a National Steel - my memory is fading a bit) and manic mandolin. He had a very Celtic way of playing Dorian mode over blues progressions in a 12/8 rythmn over the 4/4.

That collection's a real revelation to me. Thanks for sharing.

Probably mentioned this before. I've actually played Rory's beat up Strat. Gallagher was good friends with a guitar repairer name of Dave Edwards who worked out of Frank Hutchins Music at the Abbey Arms shops near Canning Town East London. Dave had the guitar in for some work that I believe was a fret dress or may be re-fret. Can't remember which. My chin hit the floor when he opened the case. I was expecting the best thing ever. Gotta say, it was probably the most horrid playing guitar I have ever had the opportunity to have a go on. You could have slipped a pint glass between the strings and the body as the action was so high. Pretty heavy gauge strung on the guitar too.

Then again that was about 25 years ago and I was into SG Les Paul's at the time.

But man, could Rory make it that Strat talk.
