Fender G-DEC, Guitar Digital Enterntainment Center
Has anybody used it? Is it more useful than a cute toy?

I have a Tascam CD-GT-1 portable CD Guitar Trainer.Im guessing the Fender unit is pretty much the same idea. There is a lot of computer software that will do the same thing the G-DEC will do.I wondering what the advantage(s) of the fender unit is, compared to the computer software??Price will be a deciding factor i guess??? Seems like a nice toy for learning though !

Advantage(s) could be:
- you have only one device - no computer skills needed, but has MIDI connectivity for advanced users
- portability (compared to a laptop? better speaker)

Prices (US retail) from
http://www.fender.com/resources/pricelists/pdf/winter2007/FenderAmplifiersSummer PriceList2006.pdf

G-DEC™ 30 ; 30 Watts, 10" speaker $493.32
G-DEC™ EXEC ; $533.00
G-DEC™ ; 15 Watts, 8" speaker …………$359.99

Price tag on G-DEC (15W) in a music store in Helsinki was €370.-
They told it was a seller before Christmas. Roland Cube60 costs appr. as much.

Computer programs for working on and transferring MIDI-files from and to G-DEC seem to be available at
http://www.fender.com/support/downloads/

As you can see I am interested in this toy

We sold a bunch of 'em when they came out. I think it's the best practice tool available. Especially for beginners 'cause the fun-factor is off the charts. Not something for live use in my book.
