I'll never stop being amazed how incredible Satch's name brand Dimarzio is. I have a Marshall JCM 900 SLX and a Carvin Legacy 2X12 cabinet to play through, and the with Joe's pickup in my RG 570, there is more than enough "colorful" notes to send through the air! It has taken me almost 20 years to get this setup, but it has made life a lot easier knowing that your rig won't let you down when you need it. (And I've had more than my share of those.) Since it mainly gets played in my apartment, I can just keep it a 2X12 amp, but it works fine for live stuff or studio sessions also. A 4X12 Legacy is surely in my future though. (always improving something.) Anyway, I just can't say enough about "FRED" being the final piece of the puzzle to me. If you haven't played one, and I'm talking about at a "good volume" level, (that's a person preferance) you need to rock with Joe's handy work. "FRED", now how cool is that?

actually, joe didn't design the fred. dimarzio produced many prototypes and joe got one of each, they were basically modded paf pros (which he used prior) the "fred" was one that he just liked the best.

Anybody know why it's called FRED?

Thanks for the info on FRED. Now I know why he still uses a PAF Pro in the neck position. Can you imagine what it must be like to have Dimarzio do what you want when you want them too? I'm sure there's a reason for the name though. They probably said "Now what should we call it?", and Joe probably said "I don't know. How 'bout Fred?"

the story goes... as each modded paf pro was developed it was given a name from the flinstones, its really a shame some of the other characters didn't rear their head on the market.

i really think fred is an apt name for the voicing of the pickup
