Hi fellow Ibaneezers,

Here in Australia you often see Japanese Pearl guitars in the pawn shops. They seem to be fairly well built, albeit not quite to the Ibanez standard.

The Pearl logo looks to be the same as that used for Pearl drums. Does anyone here have any experience with these guitars. I'd like to find out a bit about them if possible.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark
Over here in Holland Pearl guitars and basses showed up in the second half of the seventies and the first half of the eighties. Sometimes copies, sometimes with something you could call "own design" guitars. Lower price range (mostly cheaper than Ibanez copies in those days). In a musicstore over here I once saw a bass guitar, black, small body that had a kind of Ibanez Artist-style shape, two metal covered pickups (like on an old Gibson Thunderbird, one in the middle of the body and one close to the bridge)and fitted with round-wound Rotosounds. I still remember the great sound of that bass and until this day on I regret I didn't buy it. I think the instruments overall were well built and sounded really well. Also with this brand you had to compare the money/value issue. I think Pearl did a good job on that matter.

Mark!
I have for you an old catalog from Pearl Export Series (not the drumkits, but the guitars and basses) from -I believe- 1980. If you give me your post adress I send it to you. You can mail me also at harry.kruisselbrink@wanadoo.nl

Harry,

Thanks for your kind offer. I'll email you with my home address. I don't want any Perth based internet lurker finding out where my stash of Ibanez beauties is now do I??

Cheers,

Mark
