I have an opportunity to purchase an Ibanez PM 20 in mint condition. However l'm a little tentative as the sticker inside states "Made in Japan" and to my knowledge all the PM 20 are made in Korea.
The guitar also has a gold truss-rod cover (similar to scofield's model) and Japanese knobs. All other features are identical to the Korean model except the blond finish which seems more luxuriuous. The serial no on the label is 00014 and there is no other serial no on the guitar.
l would really appreciate any help on this one!!

Garry,

There are Pat Metheny models made in both Japan and Korea. There is a difference in the model designation between the two, but I don't know enough about them to tell you which is which. I believe the Japanese models were the first ones introduced, and the lower cost Korean model came later.

I've played a Japanese Pat Metheny, and I feel it is basically the same guitar as my FG100's from the mid '80's. The one I played had the AB/MOP/AB inlays and gold hardware. I wasn't really taken with the upper bout's cutaway though.

The guitar played and sounded nice, but I couldn't help thinking that it was too much money for what amounts to a one pickup FG100.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks Mark,

This is the FG shape and doesn't have the upper cutaway (which l personally find unattractive)
l thought it sounds great and is very comfortable being slightly thinner in the body.

By the way, if you're still after the Brian Setzer edition of guitar player? A music shop in Black Rock has it "Southside music" sorry l don't have the phone number handy.

All the best

Garry
