Hey guys,

I have been selling off some of the "name brand" guitars in favor of some nice Ibanez goodies.
Some guitar guru's think I'm nuts.
Here's an ad I saw today on the net:

Will trade unreal Prs singlecut 10 top, gold hardware, birds.transparent violin? in color..very early model..Handwritten serial number and 10 top indication. all original...Will trade for Ibanez AR5000 artist(has tree of life and 3 band EQ.

I'd do that trade in a heartbeat but there are alot of sixstringers out there that would not.

What are your thoughts ?

I think PRS are just over-expensive vintage Ibanez copies anyway! A friend of mine just bought one for silly money, then played my Artist & said 'Oh, I never knew Ibanez made guitars like this!'

Mike:

Well, the AR5000 certainly would be a fitting replacement for that PRS (maybe even a PRS Dragon?).

IMO, the AR2000 Prestiges are probably the equal of any PRS. The Artist smooth heel is a LOT nicer than the extremely disappointing, neck joint on the PRSs.

Tim:

For me, there's a beauty to the PRSs that's hard to put into words. It's a definite gut feeling of "wow!" A blend of classic and new lines that has almost no flaws.

I'm happy for Mr. Smith's success. But after seeing hundreds at a time (at a recent guitar show) the lustre is weary off.

The new headstock shape (can't remember if it's just on the newer, cheap Santana models, or not) is NOT what I'd expect from PRS. It's ugly!

A few years back I was thinking of getting into collecting PRSs. Unfortunately, the necks of those I've tried, did not suit me like the Ibanezes. And the prices were sky rocketing, besides. :)

I do like PRS, to me they're the only guitars around that compare to the quality of old Ibanez's, but in the UK you have to pay around 3 times what you'd pay for a vintage Ibanez...even in mint condition.

Orval,

When I said I would do that trade in a heartbeat, I was referring to trading a PRS for the AR5000.
I would not trade the AR5000 (IF I HAD ONE) for any other guitar either !!

Well, Maybe Stevie Ray Vaughan's #1 Beat to death Strat just for the collector value of it.........Nah, I couldn't even do that even though I am a huge fan of his.

As long as you brought it up, how come we don't have a Guitar Tours page on your AR5000? Send pictures, please. :)

Just butting in.

Truth is I would rather have an AR5000 too. Or what about a 2674 or a 2676.

Tim's right, players seem happy to pay silly money for PRS's over here in the UK. Not only that, when buying used they want a minter for less than half the money of a new one. I do have a soapbar goldtop McCarty thats 9.9/10. Trouble is I'm terrified of taking it to gigs. If I decide to sell, no ones gonna want to buy it if it has a nasty scratch or dent here and there.

Orval:

Have you finished taking those pic yet?

I think that Ibanez may *almost* be one of THE name brand guitars now. It seems that we're not the only ones who think they're great. They are pretty much universally accepted as being top quality instruments, and are played and favored by plenty of top (non-indorsed) musicians. Anything with "Ibanez" written on the headstock gets snapped up on ebay.

I guess the true indication of when Ibanez has fully "arrived" will be when people start saying "that _____ is just as good as an Ibanez"
