Free Technical Info. Hello fellow Ibaneezers. Just thought I'd offer some free information to anyone who can use it. I maintain a guitar tech site with useful information and wiring diagrams (some stock, some original) which I have always maintained without banners or cost to anyone. I like being able to share knowledge with people across the globe - in fact, I used to provide free tech support until I got bombarded with spam and (successfully killed) viruses. Ibanez Collectors World now allows me to reach people who have a common interest and who can contact me if they need to!! I'm smiling again !!! Visit my site and let me know what you think. There are references to Ibanez guitars and electronics, although I don't specifically mention the brand.

Craig:
really enjoyed the info on pickups, I use a 2617 with super 80's. I'm not all that technical, and have always been led to believe that alnico pups were the doggies dangly bits, mainly because a few of my friends are into vintage gear, and are always raving on about vox ac 30's with alnico blue speakers, and early strats with alnico pups. It would be interesting to look at the frequency response of the different pups on a series of set notes. I'm heavily into guitar sounds, and have been thro quite a few amps, pups and guitars, and have ended up with the 2617 straight into a mk3 mesa boogie [used tastefully, --- start cranking it up and you dont want to be in the same building], I've found the ceramic pups thick and throaty with a sweet edgyness to them, and it is the best combination I've had up to date.
I've also got a hohner with Kent armstrong stacked humbuckers, with the same tone circuit as on your site, [centre dent pot with shelfing], but its now redundant after the artist.
Just recently I let an AR300. with active e q pass by, would I be right in thinking that having active e q is no different to having a pedal to do the same thing?

Yes, I suppose a 3-band active EQ pedal would do roughly the same thing as the Artist EQ, but there is an advantage to being able to change the EQ settings right from the guitar itself. The disadvantage with any active circuitry in a guitar is that you're stuck running on batteries.
