I haven't been able to find any contact info for people at Ibanez. Do they have a phone number or email address for "dumb questions" ?
I want to ask someone if they ever plan on making a S7420 with 24 frets. I guess I also want to ask how much custom work costs (probably more than I can afford). |

Try 215-638-8670. The recording says they are open 8:30-5:15 EST, customer service is there til 8:30. |

Actually, I can answer both questions for you:
1) No. Never will be an "S" model guitar with 24 frets, and
2) There is no Ibanez custom shop available to the public.
Being a former CSR for Ibanez, I know this stuff for a fact...

1. Is there a technical reason why there won't ever be a 24 fret S model?
2. Is there any part of Ibanez open to the public?
3. Do you have a favorite guitar? (Ibanez I hope. J)

And the answers are:
1. No, it's a design choice. The S series has always been 22 frets, and always will be.
2. Nope.
3. Right now? My Ibanez AE200. It's a prototype model from 1986 (I have two of them, actually!). Semi-hollow single-cutaway with a Seymour Duncan neck humbucker and active piezo bridge. It sounds like Carlos Santana! Second is my Les Paul Studio Lite w/MIII electronics (yes, a H/S/H-equipped Les Paul!).

Regarding #3: What's an AE200? I thought it was Acoustic Electric. But you say semi-hollow. What did I missed in '86?

Speaking of Gibson, what's the coolest Ibanez replica you've seen?
I used to have a sunburst Gibby Melody Maker. Someone before me outfitted it with a HB and better Leo Quan 1-piece bridge; it was a little smoker. I saw an Ibanez MM go up on ebay and it sold for quite a bit (compared to an original MM). It was cool to see something other than a LP or SG copy. |

Today's AE line is Acoustic/Electric. Technically, so is the old AE200, but it's more of an Electric/Acoustic, y'know? I'll post a picture soon (as soon as I remember to check this site from home!) so you can see it. It's pretty cool...
As far as the coolest repro... dunno. Ibanez used to to a version of the Moderne which was 100% dead-on. Not my favorite guitar shape, but it's pretty... well, odd.

Reading your conversation with John S, my question is finaly answered(the ae 200 in the semi-acoustic corner).
However another question: i own an AE200 Artstar,
built in 1980, refered to the serial number:
H804183. How can it be that your's, built in 1986
is a prototype??
What kind of strings do you use??
Dying to see your picture here.
I know it is a model, played on by the cocteau twins in the early 80's.
More info is always welcome...

does anyone have a value for a ae200. i have one and i have been told many different amounts from £1400 down to just a couple hundred. no matter anyway, i wouldnt sell it for the world. i love it!! |
