i just bought a talman tc 220. I've read alot about others in the talman series, such as the 420, but can't find anything about a 220. The only difference i can tell is the 220 has the other type humbuckers, not the retro gibson looking silver shiny ones like the 420 has.

The '98 catalog says:
body: agatis
neck: talman
-length: 25.5"
-width @ nut: 1-5/8, @ last fret: 2-13/64, @ 1st fret: 53/64, @ 12th fret: 7/8
-radius: 9-7/16
frets: medium
bridge: standard 6-point
neck pup: Powersound humbucker
-psnd1: ceramic magnet, high output in the neck position with no muddiness
bridge pup: Powersound humbucker
-psnd2: ceramic magnet, high output with enhanced harmonics
-standard 3-way switching (neck only, both, bridge only; no coil tap or phase)
colors: black and deep green

The pickups on the 420 are listed as the same Powersounds, they just have covers. The bridge is a TZ30 (2 point), it has a truss rod cover and no string tension thingy on the headstock.

BTW, if anyone knows what agatis is, I'd love to know.

Hope this helps,

John,

Agatis is a spelling mistake - Agathis is the correct spelling. It is kind of like mahogany but much cheaper to buy. The DeArmond guitars from Korea use Agathis too.

As far as I recall, on some year the Talman model numbers went by the pu configuration, counting the coils in the guitar. Meaning, 3 single coils models were *30, two-humbucker models were *40, and two p-90's went by *20. I have a not so common model TV-550, which has two minibuckers and a lipstick in the center.

The first number determines propably the woods etc, in other words the price. TV-650 '96 would have been cool, burst flame maple top with gold hardware.. Mmm. Too bad I couldn't find one in Germany on our choir tour '97. I don't think there sold a single one here in Finland.

A picture and a story about my Talman TV550:

I am selling it, though, so if anyone is interested, contact me. :o)
