This is a scan of an Ibanez flyer (pocket catalog?) highlighting the Roadstar Pro Line PLZ1770. There is no date anywhere on the flyer.

Notice the Standard series has the pointier headstock and a more Fender pickguard, while the Deluxe series has the headstock and pickguard common through 1986. I'm guessing that this is 1987.

Can anyone confirm this?
Steve?

Although they shared many features, Pro Line and Roadstar were two separate series.

The flyer above shows what appears to be the 100 (standard) series for 1987, with the 400 (deluxe) series for 1986. My guess would be it was a late '86 printing. My '87 Roadstar catalog shows all models with the pointy headstock.

100 series production was transferred to Korea in '87. I have seen a few Japanese built 100's with '87 serial numbers. The Korean models are different in a number of ways. Although they appear similar at a glance, the overall quality and detail is poor compared the the Japan built models. Avoid Korean built Roadstars!

Thanks, Steve.

So this would be a transitional Flyer, eh? I kind of suspected that. Thanks for the info.

P.S. I generally avoid Korean built guitars unless I can examine them in person. Some are really decent while others are just the new Hondo II's (anybody remember Hondo?)

I don't have anything against Korean built guitars in general. I do however, know for a fact that the '87 Roadstar 100 series had some serious quality issues.

Hondo... Yeah, I rather forget.

Cheers
