I recently purchased a rather old looking Ibanez from a local guitar store and I have been trying to figure out what kind and how old it is. The only identifying mark that could make it an Ibanez is a plate on it that says "Ibanez 9213946" Here is a description.

1.All natural Maple w/rosewood fingerboard
2.3 way pickup selector switch
3.Volume and Tone (2 knobs)
4.Select pickups by EMG (PJ style)
5.No Ibanez markings on the head.
6.Passive circuitry

If you need some pictures, I can send them to you just e-mail me at miseryman8@yahoo.com
Thanks

Meatpuppet:

If you don't get any response, I'd post the pictures here. If you haven't already, read the following page to see how to include pictures in your messages:

http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/ImageFAQ.html#FAQPictures

Then take a look at this thread: "How do I upload photos? I've read formatting, but..." in the Miscellaneous section.

If your still having difficulty, send the pictures to me as an email attachment.

Alrighty, I've taken a few pictures of the bass and thanks to John I'm going to make an attempt to get them up here.

alright.. I'm going to quit messing with it... I already feel dumb enough trying to put multiple pictures up and just repeating them... Sorry for wasting space John. So, does anyone have an idea of what this is?

Don't worry about the failed attempts, it's no problem for me.

Hmmm, I'll check what catalogs I have. But it's still not looking too familar.

Is that an "s" curve at the tip of the headstock. What's the dark spot next to the E string machine? A truss rod cover? Does it look like the headstock could be refinished and the logo removed?

Is the plate that has the name and number on it the neck plate? If so, and it is original, it's gotta be an Ibanez and I would think a '92 model.

It looks a lot like my EXB404, but with some modifications to the controls. The body shape is definitely like the EX series of basses.

Cheers

Looks like Steve nailed it. My '93 catalog shows it to be an EXB404.

Are you sure those are EMG Select pickups? They don't look like the EMG Select in the catalog (came on the EXB445 5 string). Those are both 1 piece, black with white writing on them. They do look just like the Powersound P & J pickups shown on the EXB404.

They only came in Jewel Blue, Burgundy Red and Black. Unless they offered Natural in '92, I'd say you have a refin, which would explain the missing logo on the headstock. BTW, I like the Natural look better.

The body is light American maple, 3 piece maple neck, 22 frets on rosewood fretboard with pearl dots and a chrome Standard 4-string bridge. Also all 3 knobs should be black.

Hey thanks guys that really cleared up a lot for me. The light spots on it are where the finish is definitely getting worn down which was why I thought it might be old. A refin would also explain why the headstock doesn't have an Ibanez logo on it. The pickups are EMG's (it's written on them) and the one black knob that is on it was added by me. The originals were the gold color. I know this is a site devoted to Ibanez, but I have another bass that has Seville on the headstock, and the serial number is S102RW. I was curious if this company even has a site and where I might be able to find some information on it. Thanks Again! you guys are great.
