In around 1972 I bought a second hand Antoria '335' copy. Unfortunately I don't have any photos but I remember that the pickups were narrower than a humbucker with one row of screws and a row of oblong steel polepieces - sort of Hofner style. Inside the pickups it was actually just one coil, wound on a clear nylon bobbin. The guitar was cherry red and it had a trapeze style tailpiece as I remember. I'd love to know the model number, see a photo, or indeed, get any information on this model.

You probably mean this one, the 1915, which is actually a copy of a Yamaha:

(That's the backdoor)

And here's the front door of Harry's and Hasy's website, with lots of interesting old stuff:

Hofnerians call these oblong pole pieces "staples".

Growler,
I think you mean something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.pl/A-VINTAGE-ANTORIA-335-SEMI-ACOU STIC-BASS-GUITAR-JAPAN_W0QQitemZ290108313541QQihZ0 19QQcategoryZ4713QQcmdZViewItem

It's a bass but I've seen the same model as a six string guitar I see them often on ebay.

Yes, here's an old one from a while ago http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item =190081739940&sspagename=ADME:L:RTQ:US:1
The pictures don't seem close enough but I see those pretty often, the pickups are not humbuckers.

Thanks guys. It's definitely not the Yamaha one. and it's not really like the bass one. It's more like the one Tristran found on Ebay. It has the wooden shield decoration fitted to the trapeze bridge and yes the pickups are screws and staples. What model is that? any more photos? Many thanks.

Out of interest, I removed the wooden shield because doing so made it look more like a 335, and I still have that shield today!

That doesn't look like a 1972 guitar. It has a ZERO-fret! Looks like < 1967.

This is one for Hasy!

could be a 1912 330 copy.....sure it had a block inside......was the bridge sitting on a wooden cradle on the archtop with no screws into the body...did it feedback like nuts when driven?
Hasy will know...google "privates ibanez museum" to see photos of his collection.
