Hi.I am just about to buy an Ibanez AS83 and I was thinking of changing the pick-ups to IBZ super 58 or similar.What are your thoughts on that,and where can I find them? |

Good choice of pickups for that guitar. I'm sure someone on this board has info on a source of Super 58s. I've got one old one without a cover, but I'm sure you can find a pair of nice ones with covers somewhere. |

You can order the 58s through any Ibanez dealer (but I'd go with a small independent rather than a chain store). The 58s are nice and neutral. They will allow the natural sound of the guitar to come through. They can get muddy though. As an alternative, you could go with DiMarzio PAF Classics for a clearer, more open classic tone. I'm extremely enthused about the PUs I just put in my AS200: a Benedetto A6 in the neck and a Seymour Duncan Custom Custom in the bridge. Now I have a great jazz tone and a great overdrive tone in one guitar! I'll write a full review soon.

Thanks for the info guys.I am waiting for the review on your AS200 with the new PUs Funkle.I have put a Seymour Duncan Jazz(neck) and Jef Beck(bridge) on my Ibanez Les Paul Custom and am really happy with both.You get both the jazzy sound and the mean bluesy-rocky one too. |

For an alternative to major mass-produced stuff, check out HighOrder pickups. Jeff will wind them any way you want with a wide choice of magnets, etc. Super 58's use Alnico 3 and are wound a tad hatter than a stock PAF, so if you wanted a custom made set of 58s, he'd be able to do it...hand wound (can not beat the tone and quality)...and for probably less than the Super58's would cost you. Highly Recommended. |

Jeff's site is HighOrderPickups.com. He winds all of the pickups himself - a one-man shop. There are links on the site to musicians using his stuff. Guys that use Jeff's pickups have usually been through Burstbuckers, Duncans, DiMarzios, and even more boutique stuff like Voodoo pickups, and they agree that HighOrder pickups just smoke 'em all. You can find my comments on his site as well. You think he'd give me a discount...just kidding...they're already affordable. If they were any cheaper and the guy would be losing money!! There's usually a 2 - 3 month wait for him to fill orders, but it's worth it.
