I have to admit that some time ago I payed allot of money for a mid 70's Destroyer because of the supposed VH connection, but now I suspect dear old Ed actually never owned one (the korina issue aside). Perhaps if this could be proved, the price of these wonderful guitars would drop to a reasonable amount. I have completely fallen in love with my 1976 Destroyer and in the end could care less whether VH played one or not be it korina or ash. However I am still curious to know.
My question is this: All the 70's Destroyers I have seen seem to have no ridge at the neck join. The early 80's (set neck) Destroys had this ridge but that was a completely different guitar than the first (pre lawsuit) Ibanez Explorer copies. Did some of the 1970's Ibanez Destroyers have this ridge at the neck joint? Note the picture of the neck joints of the 80's and 70's Destroyers. The 70's neck joint (flush with the back of the body) is exactly how all the other 70's Destroyer necks joints seem to look that I have seen. The 80's Destroyers have a ridge like the Gibson's Explorers. Now look at the neck joint on the VH Destroyer (Definitely a ridge). Perhaps Edwards guitar was actually an original Gibson Korina Explorer series(1958-63)and not an Ibanez at all:

Can't get the "image upload" prompt so no pictures, but maybe you still know what I am talking about.

It's not a myth. I played the Hollywood circuit in the 70s. Saw Eddie at Gazzarris in 76 with a dead stock korina Destroyer. I had never seen one before. Had to go get one. Still have it. It rocks. Eddie had to have more than one. Check out musikfoto.com for some pics from the time period...
