Hello all,
I'm new on this board. I'm a newbie guitar player (at 31 years old!) and thought this would be an interesting forum. And also, I have a question:

My brother in law is trying to discover the value of his Ibanez, which he said was a Blazer series. However, on this board it seems that the Blazer series should have a serial # starting with BL? Problem is, his serial # is D817652, unless he perhaps read it wrong... Anyone here have any ideas? Thinking on it, maybe the 81 was really supposed to be a BL, but that wouldn't explain the D at the beginning...

Welcome,

That's right, D817652 means it was made in April of '81. The letter corresponds to the month: A= January, B=February, etc.

There is a thorough explanation of Ibanez dating at ibanezrules.com

If you do a keyword search on blazer, you'll find many enlightening discussions :-)

As Sven says, the guitar is almost certainly from early 1981. There are some Blazer fans that feel these were/are better instruments than Fender Strats.

Here's some links to pages from the 1981 catalog that show the models and specs for the Blazer series.

Once we know the model, it will be easier to give an estimate on the current market value. In the end, value will depend largely on the rarity of the particular model and it's condition. Mint and all original is best.
