hello fellers,

im retiring a guitar, lukather to be exact, whats the best way to keep an unplayed instrument? i've read so many things and sadly they all seem to contradict each other... so...
strings loose or tuned to pitch? in its case? on a stand? on the wall? minus strings or with?
i dont want to end up with a boomerang for a neck and all that.

thanks in advance all
claudio

What I'd do is check that the tuss rod is correctly adjusted (very small bow), tune the strings to pitch, and store in a case in a normal room temperature and humidity. The case will prevent from dust, and it will also even out fast temperature changes (opening a door in the winter etc).

If You sell the guitar later on, the neck will react on humidity and temperature in the new location anyway. But keeping it stable for as long as You have it is the best thing to do, in my opinion.
