And I like the information bundled, not fragmented. IMO, your first serial number thread is a good one, no matter what the length is. Perhaps it would be a good idea to start a HOW TO READ A TYPE NUMBER thread as well, because people put type number questions in your old thread. There we could ask and answer questions about type number extensions like "colour" codes, "fretboard wood" codes, possible "made in" codes. And matters like: does a 5 at the end of a type number always mean "burled mahogany" or not? Does a 5 in the middel always mean "trem aboard"? Or perhaps someone should start another one dedicated to that topic. Regarding the number 5... On the acoustic side, a 5 seems to have been introduced in 1978 (possibly earlier) on the Artwood models to indicate a 12-string variant of a 6-string. E.g., my AW-75 is a 12-string version of the AW-70. The 1983 catalog lists an AW-25 and and AW-35, which again seem to be 12-strings which match their AW-20 and AW-30 6-string cousins. This "rule" doesn't seem to have any bearing on other Ibanez models of guitars, from what I can tell; it only seems to apply to the Artwoods. I was talking about a new thread with an adequate title (your second proposal). Don't discuss type numbers in a serial number thread. We stepped into that pitfall once too often.
