Hi, I have been encountering a problem with trem info. Strangely, I feel I should know this, but I don't. I just got a roadstar with a powerocker, it looked like my edge bar would fit, it dosn't. Many people state that it does, but I'm here to tell you it don't. I took the bar totally apart and where the bar goes in to the trem is shorter than the bar itself. Now, I know the edge has evolved over the years, is it possible old ones fit but new ones won't?

Smurfdaddydog, no the 2LE21B trem arm for Ibanez Edge and Lo-Pro Edge trems don't fit thats true. What you need is the YE334C-3 trem arm. I still have some of these instock at the office and they are $20 aussie + $10 postage to the USA or Europe, $3.60 if your in Australia. They are a chrome arm with a black plastic knob on the end.

If you would like one please email me at the office cameron@australismusic.com.au

I beg to differ!!!!!

I have both Edge and PoweRocker equipped guitars and the bars are interchangable. I have original Chrome bars with the plastic tip, original Black bars with the plastic tip, and later model Black bars without the plastic tip. They will all work in either bridge.

I'd like to see photos of the PoweRocker in question.

Dude, Come on man, don't be a sore looser. I'm wrong sometimes and I can admit it. I have no doubt the powerocker bar can fit in an edge, it would just go real deep. The edge trem does fit the powerocker trem, it just sticks out to far. I swear to god I will figure out how to take the pictures I have and convert them so you can look at it first hand, but I think you are taking this whole thin as a personal attack, and its not (I just want the bar that fits my trem). If captain Ibanez's word isn't good enough for you who's is? Rich Lasner, Mace Bailey, Bill Reim, Ken Hoshino, Salvador Ibanez? Really, you seem like a knowledgeable guy and passionate about Ibanez guitars (don't blame you, I am to), as well as contributing to this sight, GREAT! But really, calm down, and consider that perhaps you might be mistaken.

Yeah Steve really,

I mean you only have what, about a hundred guitars under your belt? Experience with every trem that Ibanez has ever made (in the eighties that is!)? You’re the site's go-to guy when it comes to Roadstars and their respective accoutrements (at least until now).

Well it seems once again that you’ve gone out of your way to try to help perfect strangers, and for what? You know I always fall back on the ol' saying that "No good deed goes unpunished". Perhaps you should be more specific in your explanation that although the arm fits, maybe it won’t "bottom out" when it’s supposed to. After all, God (or the Devil, take your pick) is in the details.

Mace Bailey? Come on.

Looks like we have another BEAR POKER in the fold .

Don’t worry brother, I still love ya!

Hey, wait a minute. Don’t you hate trems??? That’s right , you’re a hard tail guy!!!! What the hell do you know about trems anyway?

Just to change the subject slightly (and calm things down, a little) here's pictures of my '97 Edge trem arm and my '84 ProRocker trem arm.
TremArmsWhole
TremArmsClose

Yes, I know it's not a PowerRocker arm, but just in case anybody cares, these two arms are pretty much interchangeable. When switched, the Edge arm is VERY tight in the ProRocker while the ProRocker arm is looser in the Edge. Neither sticks up too far or presents any real problem.

Ok, it seems I've pissed off everyone I possibly could, and that was never my intention. Let's start over. Hi, I'm Eddie (real name), I love ibanez guitars and basses and i have a problem because while I have twelve edge equipped guitars, not a one of the bars fit in a way that works in the roadstar that I feel lucky enough to have liberated from a pawn shop. I would love to acquire a trem arm that will. Because I work out of the country for months on end I have limited time to get either my virus infected windows machine or my mac (that seems to hate the pic thing) to cooperate with sending pics before I have to go back to work again (whew). Hey, lets try to rope it back in, I clearly stated that Mr. Roadstar was a knowledgeable guy and passionate about Ibanez guitars, and ok, I was a bit tweaked because I had just asked Capt. Ibanez about the bar and he clearly states they do not fit and he gave part numbers and said he had the right ones in stock. Let me say right now that nothing would make me happier than buying Mr. Roadstar a beer and talking guitar. So come on guys, lets realize that we just want to share a passion. I said I can admit when I'm wrong and it would seem that you all know Mr. Roadstar and I crossed a line. Sorry. Doesn't change the fact that the bar will not fit properly though.

At what point was I pissed-off? All I did was state facts I can prove with items in my hand.

I think I owe Jeffsailor a thank-you. However, pointing out the hardtail thing may have been bad form

For the record, it's closer to 50 guitars total.
Roadstars account for about half of that figure.
Eight have been Powerocker equipped including the DT250 in the current line up.
I also have 3 Powerockers in my parts bins.

Johns posted photos of early and late pop-in whammies and yes there are slight differences. However, those difference are in the design of the bar not the trem. The Edge has used the same receiver since 1986. The Powerocker came with the same bar as the Edge in 1986. The '84 and '85 examples of the Powerocker I have seen used the same bar as the '86.

Now as for Smurfdog's no-fit situation, a photo would probably solve the problem. Ibanez hardware anomalies are nothing new as I am sure the Cap'n will agree

I really need to get a new camera! Here's an Edge and a Powerocker comparison. You can see that the receivers for the whammy bar are identical.

I confir with you Lt Commander Roadstar.

I have had odd occasions to modify trem arms for a better fit.
I did one the other week for a customer who was complaining about his Edge Pro 2 arm flopping around even with the grubscrew done up as far as it would go.
So I took a hacksaw to the bottom of a LoPro Edge arm (2LE21B), cut the point off, and with a bit of grinding and sanding the nylon bushes (2LE211)
the arm was much firmer in this trem.

At the end off the day Steve you are right there will always be somewhere down the track a slight variance with this type of issue.

Please God, let photobucket work. I hope this settles the debate that my powerocker will not take an edge bar. Nifty roadstar huh? It's so ugly its beautiful. Oh yah, Mr. Roadstar, the invite to have a beer on me and talk guitar is open anytime you find yourself in Louisiana. If the photobucket link will not work I'll come up with something else, but for now that's all I have time to do. Peace, Eddie (SDD)

Oh, forgot to mention it, I took the trem completely out so you could see that they are indeed different where the bar goes in. Mine, sadly is shallower, after looking at yours I must say I was a little envious at the fact you wouldn't have my problem with a weird bar. But I was very careful to get a shot you could read that said powerocker. Other than the funky bar sleeve mine looks the same as yours.

It looks like the bottom portion of the receiver is missing! I've never seen anything like it. Why doesn't the bar go all the way through? Is there something blocking the end of the hole?

Wierdrocker

You can replace that receiver with one from an Edge or another Powerocker if you want to use the pop-in bar.

I'll pass on Louisiana during hurrican season, thanx

Yes indeed something is blocking the hole. That would be the threaded insert that you can plainly see screwed into the bar in some of the pix. I figured this thing was kind of weird and I tried to get a sleeve in the bar from my edge, but it was reluctant to say the least. Glad I finally figured out the picture thing though, with out it I had no credibility. Take a closer look at them, that is the way it came and as you can see the edge bar sticks way to far up. Thanks for your help everyone, and oh cappy, I emailed but never received a response. Do you have the bar I need?

The arms are not the same, But the Socket is. Get a new arm and a new Arm socket, Remove the Nut under the threaded arm holder, Put the Tremolo in a Vice they used Locktite on the holder, Heat it with a Torch or a Soldier iron to melt the lock tite, Use the largest screw driver you can find and remove the socket, Put the new socket in and tighten the nut, Then the tremolo arm will work just fine.
