Dear Captain,

Hasy brought up an interesting point in another thread on the possibility of older Ibanez catalogues in Australia. Perhaps the Captain can enlighten us with the history of Ibanez in that region for example, when did the distribution of Ibanez started? Was Australis the distributor all this while?

Many thanks and regards,

Meranti

Meranti, sometime ago, I did a ring around and also spoke to previous wholeslers of Ibanez in Australia at the previous AMAC trade show about going through there archives for old catalogues.

I really hate to say that all this old stuff is in a landfill somewhere.
Australis Music Group has been the proud distributor of Ibanez in Australia since 1978,which I built their archives for them. the previous distributor was Dynamic Music. I spoke to Greg the owner about the old catalogues they used to provide when I was working in retail back in the 70's ,and he said that they threw their old catalogues out after Australis Music took over the distribution.
I have also spoken to Lionel @ Zenith Music in W.A. who was the Western Australian distributor back in the 70's and he basically has all the same catalogues from then as I do.

That's about how far back I can go with who was distributing Ibanez back then.

I guess what we all have to understand is that when a distrbutor changes products, it's sometimes impossible to keep a record of everything that you have sold in catalogue form. I know myself, I have had to throw say for example 3 year old Ibanez catalogue we may have had 1/2 a box left over, and thinking to myself gee..there are collectors out there who would love this catalogue !

Like ya O'l Cappy says.... 1 man's trash is another man's treasure.

This is why I have always collected catalogues from when I was kid.

I have a 1983 Ibanez catalogue from Australis. I can't remember the name of the shop I got it from, but they were at the top end of Murray Street in West Perth at the time.

I have a colour photocopy of a 76 German wall chart. The original had been scribbled on by a toddler with a nice red crayon. :-) So, I have the scribbles too. Better than trashing it though.

Cameron,

I believe Ron Pearce Music in Adelaide was a distributor of Ibanez in the early '70's. They have moved into a new building so i doubt they would have any old stuff - but I suppose its worth a phone call. Do you want to call them or shall I?

Bluesmeister, that shop in Murray Street would have been either Musgroves or Clef Music.

Cheers,

Mark

Munch, I think it may well have been Musgroves. It was only a small shop, but full of goodies...

Hi Munch, you can call them if you like, but I think your right, I don't like your chances :-(
This why I'm so glad that I have all the old 70's complete catalogues right through until now. Sure it takes up a bit of room...but it's been worth the years of collecting. Even though I'm not at Australis anymore, i will still get my catalogues from them and from Japan as well :-)

Good luck Mark, let me know how you get on please.

Cameron
