Info on my Gold Top 2351

Author Message Buzzhaze Username: Buzzhaze Registered: 11-2006 Posted on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 - 6:38 pm:    I have an older 2351 (I think) gold top, and I was wondering about production numbers to determine it's rarity (if any) There are no serial numbers visible. I have been looking through the site and haven't seen any others. Are they low prodution, rare models? Yours is an earlier one, judging by the six screw control cavity cover and the beveled pickguard edges. I'd say a '73. I believe the tuners are replacements and the bridge pickup is flipped. The tuning pegs were changed before I got the guitar. I seem to remember the seller telling me the originals were probably replaceable. heh-heh...I didn't even notice the pickup orientation. The catalog pic of a 2351 confirms your eagle eye. Very impressive. The odd thing about this guitar is I have played a late 60's Gibson Les Paul goldtop many times (bandmate)and I prefer the Ibanez....the Gibson seem clunky and I needed to "fight" it to get it to sound right. It just didn't have the slick feel of my Ibanez. Anyone who has played it has been blown away by it's friendly feel and smooth sound. It's a gem...a steal...Japan's best kept secret...lol Thanks again for the information and observations. As much as I wish it was a real 59 Korina wood, (worth about $150,000) it's a great guitar. I bought it new. It has a very unique, thick sound, along with a good thick neck. Ive had the Ibanez almost 20 years as well. They have both been on extended road tours and held up well.
