Morning,

Just out of curiosity, what pickup did Ibanez base the original Super 70 on?

I assume it was the original Gibson PAF or at least the 1970's 'T' top Gibson Humbucker. They sure look the same and the readings you get from an old Super 70 are very typical of PAF's.

Yes, Six, they are similar in construction to PAFs, but Ibanez opted to use a different Alnico formula. They used Alnico 8 which should be stronger than the magnet in a PAF. This would also make the Super 70 brighter sounding than a PAF. As far as I know, Gibson never used Alnico 8 magnets, only Alnico 5, Alnico 3, and Indox(ceramic).

I have no information on exactly which model of Gibson pickup the Super 70 was based on.

So, if I shove an old magnet in a Super 70 from a dead Gibson pickup ...hey presto!

Should mellow out a Super 70 a little, if you think they're too bright.

In fact, a couple of them are a little bright sounding so they are in the spares box.

Perhaps I'll give it a go Craig.
