I live in canada and recently saw 2 GTR's that looked like the howard roberts models. Don't know too much about this model but these 2 looked just like it. 1 had no name on the headstock but did have the vase type logo and the other one was the same but with the name MANN on it. The guy at the store told me that MANN was one of the names ibanez used to ship to canada. The were no serial numbers or other markings to give away year so I'm kind of in the dark on this one. any idea's?

Boogie:

I believe Michael Wright, in Guitar Stories, Vol. I, states that Mann was the brand name of a Canadian distributor of Hoshino built guitars.

The no name is hard to say. If they are truly identical, down to the electronics and glue used, then I guess you could say it was "most likely" made in the same factory as the Ibanezes.

Hi Boogie!
Yes, as far as I know, Mann equals Ibanez, only a brand name for a specific area.. I´ll post again that info, I can´t remember where I got it..

Antoria (CSI) England Distributor
Greco for Japanese Market
MANN for Canadian Market
Jason for the Australian Market
Penco, Elger, Univox for the US Market

I had an Antoria instrument that was exactly equivalent to the Ibanez version... even side by side.

So I guess the question is do you pay Ibanez money for another name on the headstock if the guitar is the same?

The thing is though these GTR's aren't ibanez money. Both of them are 450-500 cdn. but is no dating any where. Only the star tuners help. don't know how much the ibanez haward roberts would go for but for the price they both have nice tone and playability.

I've got a Penco mandolin. Is it made by Ibanez?
