I have an RG560 with a maple fingerboard from 89 (i think). From my research I have not found any evidence that Ibanez ever made a 560 with a maple fingerboard. Can you tell me anything about the guitar and what it may be worth.

Larry, I have checked my archives and all I can find as far as Maple neck RGs from the early 1990's and back as far as 1988 with the Roastar RG560 which only came with a rosewood neck, are the following models.

1990 models
RG550M..BK,WH,CM,DY,LB

1991 MODELS
RG770DX...RR,LB.Color matched Shark tooth inlays
RG550M..BK,WH,DY,CA,LB.
RG565M...Reverse headstock and color matched dot inlays.

1992 MODELS

RG770DX..CA,LB,VM.Colored Sharktooth inlays
RG550DX..LB,PN. Color matched Mirror Pickguard, black dot inlay
RG550..BK,WH,BU,CA,DY

Only thing I can think of,is that maybe its a spot production run...anyhow heres some scans for ya.

Captain Ibanez :-)

OK, this is my first post so be gentle guys.

It's my understanding that the RG500 series back in the late 80s could be ordered with either a maple or a rosewood board. The RG560 adn 570 came as standard with rosewood, and the RG550 with maple, but that it was indeed possible to get the guitars the other way around if your dealer ordered them like that for you.

I've also seen MANY aftermarket swaps. I'd say that the guitar will be worth no more and no less than any other RG560 in the same condition.

Models with matching headstocks do tend to fetch a small premium imho.

It is like the 5th RG from the top. Maroon with the matching headstocck. It also has the RG sticker in back of the headstock next to the serial #. Because off those things I am sure whatever happened occurred at the factory. I can post the serial and a picture if that will help

If it has a matching headstock, then either someone's been very picky with what swaps have gone on or I'd wager more likely someone ordered it from their dealer that way.

Either way it's probably a very nice guitar :D
