Hello,
I am waiting for my new AF105FNT to arrive tomorrow and I've had the pleasure of playing one in my local guitar store but I wanted to also play the dual pick-up model AF105. Unfortunatly the store did not have one. I was told that if you want lots of different sound tones, the two pickup model would give greater flexibility. But for a straight mello jazz sound, the floating pickup would be fine. I definitely like the looks of the floating pickup model (105F) and I had an Epi Emperor Regent with a floating pickup and loved it too.

Can you give me your opinion on the difference in sound between the two?
thanks

Tarceneaux1,

I've only spent a little time with the AF105, but generally speaking, a floating pickup will communicate more of the acoustic properties, while sunken pickups will impart more "electric" character.

Floating PU jazz boxes are usually more woody with a more percussive attack. A good choice if you want to retain the unplugged sound of the guitar. The most common choice for carved top guitars.

The dual PAF style can produce a lot of sounds, which can be quite different from the acoustic sound. The vibrations of the top come through more, since the PU is attached directly to it. More of the full, dark sound which I prefer.
