I did a search through this webpage and couldn't see a definitive answer to this question. Mine pertains to having a stamped fretboard with a serial number (two digits) on the Flying V. No markings on the back of the headstock and all case tags, etc. that go with it, having the two digit number. Any help or resolution in identifying this? Thanks.

Poidog:

As yet, I've heard no convincing argument as to their nature or purpose. What does your's say?

Poidog:

Ibanezfreak's link points you to the "official" instructions, but now that I read it, I believe there is a mistake. You can't include spaces inside the curly braces. So, "my picture" should be "mypicture".

Here's a more detailed message that talks about the file size requirements and some additional links:

There's gonna be a delay in posting the pics since I am in the process of moving. The pictures I have are about 350kb in size so I have to figure out how to reduce it down to 50kb. Check back in about 2 weeks. Sorry about that.

This is one that always Comes up, Ibanez did not have any serial numbers on the products really intil 1974, From the best I can tell, They stamped these at Hoshino Gakki before Fuji Could do it. I asked Fritz he is the one that would know but he can't remember.

I believe they thought they could serialize the guitars at Hoshino Gakki Distribution Center, But this was only for a few months before Fuji started stamping them in the Headstock or on the Neck mounting plates, I still would like to see a photo.

The problem I found is that the same numbers come up from guitar to guitar?

Jim,

PhatPhred has a stamped serial number on the ftreboard of his 2461 Johnny Smith: Y7713
post-lawsuit headstock (Guild tulip)
http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/cgi-bin/discus/discus.cgi

What does the Y mean? Does it mean Year?
Is this guitar 13 of the Year 77?

Greetz,

Ginger / J.D.

Quite right and many thanks, this is the right place for this question and I'm sure many members would be fascinated to know the answer. Perhaps the "Distributor" on the warranty card check list was actually at Hoshino Gakki, not the US. When my camera battery charges up, I'll post a pic of the checklist, in case it helps. I've attached here some relevant pics from the eBay listing, as this thread may be relevant long after the eBay listing is closed.

According to your warranty card that guitar was not A Hoshino USA distibution but a Chesbro which is on the west coast. Not that they never get gear from each other because they have in the past ordered stuff from each other even though they are not "affiliated" but the consumer would not be aware of it.

And by the way my quote has nothing to add to the fret board stamp mystery I'm just rambling!

Thanks Freak. That kind of reinforces that the inspection was carried out in the USA? Or was there a manufacturing check followed by a Hoshino distribution check, with a check at the USA destination that would not have been recorded for the customer's benefit? Does any of this have any bearing on the fretboard stamped number? More questions than answers at present.

Here's the pic of the other side of the warranty card. Be handy if JC could shed some light.

The serial number was put on at Hoshino Gakki, This was before Fuji was doing it, that is why it is not straight.

The warranty card is filled out in the USA. The person that would know would probably be Roy Miyahara, But probably he does not remember, I speak with Fritz Kato very often but also he has no memory of these things.

I will send Roy an email and see if he remembers
