hi jim,
i have a pretty customized artist i think an ar 300. there are not two micro switches for tri sound but there a no less than three witch seem to split coils and one i am not sure of.
he( or she ) has no cloud but a triangular shaped brass tailpiece wich has a nice IBANEZ engraved on it.
there are brass machine heads and dot inlay. the colour is a v .
my question is ; it has an v2 and a 70 pick up and they have brass ( i think its brass) shiney mouting rings but theres much wear and bit chipped of by usage and time so i was wandering is this easy to have restored ?
is this expensive and should i take it to a jeweler or a industrial company ..
how can i be sure it is copper or maybe a mix of metals? what did they use back in 1980 ?
please advise..

Hi Eric,
I copied a link to a poster of the 1980 "Brass Beauties" for you. The pickup rings were NOT part of the Brass Beauties project. They were normal cream plastic. I think the metal pickup rings are aftermarket.

thanx ginger , but i am still not sure if it was after market.
perhaps they customized on request at ibanez?
i heared that the pick up and type of pots configuration was sometimes at request by the customer .
the tailpiece with the ibanez is very nice and i suspect it to be original maybe even prototype?
still its nice!
maybe somebody has an idear ????

The features of that guitar sounded familiar to me and I knew I've seen it before somewhere. After some research I found this:

Eric, is that your guitar? If so, it is a modified AR100, as also mentioned in the thread above. Since the pickup rings have the matching holes for the typical 3 point pickup adjustment the Ibanez guitars had at that time, they are most likely genuine parts. Having said that, those golden rings weren't used before 1984 and were never installed on AR100s, so they must have been added sometime later by a previous owner. The same applies to the tailpiece ornament which was most probably home made. Replating those pickup rings could be difficult since they're made of plastic. I'm afraid it will be hard to find a company or shop that would be willing to mess around with such fragile parts...

the pick up rings arent made of plastic but of some kinda metal so it should be do-able i think...
if anyone has any thoughts...

If the pickup rings are really made of metal they're definitely homemade. Must have been a difficult job to make them look exactly like the Ibanez rings, especially since they are mounted on a carved top...
You could try to remove the gold plating by using Chrome polish, maybe the nickel layer underneath is still intact so a simple gold replating would do the job. If you can't find a shop or company that does the replating, you could try to do it yourself with a "Hand Galvanisation Set" like this:
