Hello everybody.
I bought this bass two years ago. I dont know anything about this bass exept that it is in the roadster series and the serial number is H792625. I really do love this bass!! great sound and look, but its heavy as hell!! I have no plans about selling this bass, its just my curiosity, hehe

I've got a 1979 RS920, same as yours but with two pickups and two vol/tone controls. I've had very little luck finding out any info on these old Roadsters, but if you follow the link it will show you an old 79 catalogue with a photo of the RS900 and a bit of info.

I'd be interested to know how much you paid for you RS900 as I'm thinking of selling my RS920.
cheers

"THE" Roadstar?
It's a series just like "Artist", "Artstar", "Musician", "Studio".
What was so special about the Roadster and Roadstar, was that they were based on Fender copies, with all kinds of changes. Variations on one theme, so to say. Some were very successful. That pickup of yours for instance: measure the resistance and you know that it's a very powerfull one.

Simple passive electronics but very effective!
And the body looks like stained ash, so this one won't be that heavy I guess...
Everything looks original, including the Hercules machineheads. This is a very nice bass!

I've never weighed it, but my Ric 4003 feels about 15lbs.... by the third set, anyway. Also seems to get heavier as I get older.

I remember Earl Hope (formerly Blues Connection) had an Ibanez ROADSTER Bass, which was MUCH heavier than my Roadstar II RB630. He played his last set on mine and kissed it afterwards.
I don't know what's under the white finish but I know that the Roadstar II basses are more suitable when you're getting older. Earl was very interested in buying, but I was and am still very attached to it. (I kept in mind, that I get older too). I'm wondering why his was so heavy. Would it have been maple instead of ash or something?

The Roadster RS900/920's are solid ash body but I don't know if it's swamp ash or something else. Whatever it is it's Very heavy, they also had active tone controls. OK, so i'm getting old as well and looking for something a bit lighter, by a couple of kilo's!
This is mine

Aren't we all! ...that's EXACTLY why I've become so attached to my li'l "violin bass" & my "Longhorn", lately... while my Ric sits in its case.
