I'm looking to get a PJ bass which has "Cimar by Ibanez" on the head stock. Head stock is shaped like the Ibanez RG series.

I wonder what kind of quality I can expect from one these very inexpensive units.

BTW: I'm the site's newest addict. I'm a bass player who has collected 3 roadstars and a Blazer. I seem to be incapable of not buying roadstar basses upon 1st sight (even a guitar, a rs135). I'm sure glad I found a site full of people who have a similar affliction.

I had a Cimar by Ibanez bass. It was a Precision copy (just the one set of pups). I picked it up on eBay for just $75 (that included shipping). It needed a new tuning peg and I generally cleaned it up. It was a basic level bass, plywood body, nothing special about it. I resold it on eBay and recouped my investment, so I broke even. I would say that one in good, playable shape without a lot of dings would be worth between $100 and $150.

here is the one I have a bid on.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPa geName=STRK:MEBTOX:IT&item=250189707826&_trksid=p3 984.cTODAY.m238.lVI

I play in 3 bands and want a good bass that I don't think will have a gerater value in 20 years -- a beater for pratice. Perhaps I'm diluted but I believe that the roadstars i have collected might become sought after in 20 years or so.

Anyone else in here believe that the 70s and 80 Ibanezes will apreciate?

I've just won an earlier no-model-name Cimar:
Ebay Item #300177718082
Won't get my hands on it until after Christmas, but I'm hoping it just needs a good clean-up & re-stringing.

The headstock on this one is the same as 1st issue Ibanez Blazer basses, and the Cimar Stinger - which appears identical to the original Blazer.

The same headstock also appears on the UK brand CSL, which were built by Fujigen - I have a stunningly playable CSL Jazz, and hope this will be similar.

Jon.

That gold logo Cimar should indicate an older guitar, and with Cimar, I think older equals higher quality. I've got a hibrid bass with an old Cimar neck on it and the neck is the best part of the bass. I'm selling it on the Gear Page if anyone is interested, though I've probably priced it too high (and probably ruined the neck by enlarging the tuner holes). Just search on Cimar and you'll find it.

BTW, looks like you got that bass for a good price, Dizlexus. Mine resold on eBay for I think about $125.
