Hi!

I just bought this Ibanez Bass (http://cgi.ebay.ch/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7377514200) on eBay, and I would like your opinion, and especially your knowledge on which type it is. I just know that it is supposed to be from the TR series, but what does that mean?

Help ist very much appreciated!

ALEXander.

Ok, at http://www.ibanezregister.com/images/BASSES/images-tr/tr1/trb1-93.jpg is an image that looks very much like it. So its a 1992 bass... But is it any good? I paid 150 bucks, so it should be good :-)

Any comments very appreciated.

ALEXander,

Give us the serial number so we can determine the production date.

The serial is 1028603, according to the guy who is selling me this (haven't got it in my hands yet). Thanks for replying.

Wackazong:

The serial number is confusing (comes from dealing with many factories in several countries). I would have said that the "1" at the beginning meant it was manufactured in 1991, but there are no TR series basses shown in the US catalog. (Perhaps this bass was made in late '91 or wasn't imported into the US; maybe another country?)

However, there are TR basses shown in the '92 catalog. It looks like a '92 TRB1. Here's a link to the '92 catalog page that shows it:

John and Alex,

Could it be an "I" rather than a 1 at the beginning? That would make it a '90.

I've noticed it is very common to see a production date a year before the guitar showed up in the catalog. But I've never seen a 2 year difference.

Sven:

Only problem is there were no TR basses in the '90 catalog, either.

Here's a translation of the auction via BableFish (might be good just for laughs...):

R offers on a Ibanez TR Series bass from the 90's Serial number: 1028603 in very good, maintained and very little played condition. The bass has two Pick Ups as with a fender Preci and a jazz bass Pick UP. Thus one has the perfect "hermaphrodite": Once jazz bass Jacko sound and on the other hand Preci softly and warmly. The bass has passive sound electronics, I from the signal path soldered around better and clearer sound characteristics to reach: Clearly and fat. If necessary I can repair however the clock condition. The string situation is perfectly adjusted: Beautifully deeply for easy play feeling and good taping bar. It has a very full sound. Super Sustain. The strings are nearly new, few easily (Rotosound Swing bass) the string situation, taping bar and the sound are excellent! The bass hangs very well on the neck. It is not top-heavy and all much more easily than the heavy 70's of basses. My bathroom balance says only 3.2 kg! The neck consists 4fach screwed on of solid wood (beautiful insert) and is to the back. The Bridgesystem is completely adjustable (string situation, federation purity)! It has open mechanisms of very high quality and being correct stability. The bass is natural federation clean. The griffbrett consists of dark wood (maple?). The Bundierung bass was very carefully implemented. The federations do not have notches, there the bass only little easily become-becoming that neck are adjustable by means of Trussrod (neck adjusting staff). The quality of workmanship of the bass is really very well, the color black. There the bass only to practice before the television were used have no Macken, scratch or depressions! The back is without scratches, the lacquer has completely light traces of use, but no scratches. Likewise the thumb edition. The neck is as new. All screws are as new. Genuine (!) leathers a belt is provided: Also as new! If necessary can be offered still another Gig Bag with for further inquiries to mailen at any time. Private sales, without warranty

And, what do you think? Is it worth 150 bucks?

ALEXander.
