I bought a SR 300DX second hand recently. It plays ok but I have to admit that the frets are quite worn, and not evenly either. It's like the frets have gone knobbly. So much so that a re-crown is not going to help. The last owner played the hell out of it, I tell ya!

So I want to ask if it is worth a refret, or, I should sell up and buy a new bass - bearing in mind that funds is an issue?

This might be an lower end bass in the Ibanez range, but it does have surprisingly good sustain. I don't really want to sell it over some desperately worn frets.

Do they buzz? Yes, at some places. But I CAN adapt my playing.

What do you all think?

I'd get an estimate for a refret and maybe you should check the price of a replacement neck and compare the two.

You could also look at necks on ebay. There are a few there now. Maybe you can find a MIJ neck.

Thanks, sounds like a logical plan.

And thanks for the tip on looking out for necks for sale on ebay. Wasn't aware that people were parting out their basses - thought it was only a Stratocaster thing LOL.
