I'm going to try and duplicate the pickguard and I need a bit of feedback from you BE owners who are blessed with an original scratchplate.

Is the pickguard black or clear ?

I've read somewhere that the designs we're ''under'' the pickguard so that would make it clear but when I look at pictures it's hard to tell.

If clear, are the vines countouring the pickguard just painted on or is it recessed a bit in the pickguard ?

Same for black, are the designs recessed ?

Are the Mother of Pearl feathers real MOP or just the slim stick-on variety ?

Basically any info, description or pics to help me restore this bass to its former glory would be appreciated greatly.

I will be posting a step by step restoration thread to show how my project is going.

Thanks !

Thanks Orval for the nice pic, looks like it's a clear pickguard and that the MOP inlays and the vine design are under the pickguard and that the eagle is grooved on the face and then painted-on.

Anybody else has info I can Use ?

Thanks !
