Hello, just picked up this beast for $40(u.s.) yesterday simply because I always wanted an eb3 clone. It has nothing on the front or back of the headstock, the neckplate is rectangular with "MADE IN JAPAN" about a 1/3 way from the bottom of it. I took it apart and it seems to be Mahogany, and I believe the fretboard is rosewood. I am totally baffled that upon complete disassembly I couldn't find a marking on any single component or cavity. The pickups seem to be standard EB3 components, with 2 tone, 2 volume and 2 slide switch controls.
I originally pegged this as a Harmony but I found an early 70's Ibanez that was nearly identical except for the bridge and slide switches. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, don't know if it's an Ibanez, but the neck plate you describe, with the text on the lower part, was quite common on guitars built at the Fuji Gen Gakki factory, which was where Ibanez were built in the 70s & 80s.

Fuji Gen built numerous different brands, and also unbranded instruments - so it's not necessarily an Ibanez, even if it was built there.

I can't quite tell from the pic, but I'm guessing that's not the original bridge. Looks like a 2-saddle Tele bass type.

Jon.
